Punctuation marks are the small signs — full stops, commas, question marks — that tell the reader where to pause, stop, or ask. Good punctuation makes your English writing clear and easy to understand.
যতিচিহ্ন হলো ছোট ছোট চিহ্ন — full stop, comma, question mark — যা পাঠককে বলে কোথায় থামতে, শেষ করতে বা প্রশ্ন করতে হবে। সঠিক যতিচিহ্ন আপনার ইংরেজি লেখাকে পরিষ্কার ও সহজবোধ্য করে।

Punctuation is the set of marks used in writing — the full stop (.), comma (,), question mark (?), exclamation mark (!), apostrophe (') and others — that organise sentences and show their meaning.
Punctuation হলো লেখায় ব্যবহৃত চিহ্নের সমষ্টি — full stop (.), comma (,), question mark (?), exclamation mark (!), apostrophe (') ও অন্যান্য — যা বাক্য গোছায় ও অর্থ স্পষ্ট করে।

প্রধান নিয়মগুলো: (১) Full stop (.) — বাক্যের শেষে বসে (I am happy.)। (২) Comma (,) — তালিকায় বা ছোট বিরতিতে (apples, rice and milk)। (৩) Question mark (?) — প্রশ্নের শেষে (Where are you?)। (৪) Capital letter — প্রতিটি বাক্যের প্রথম অক্ষর, নাম, দেশ, ভাষা ও 'I' সবসময় বড় হাতের (Dhaka, Bangla, I)। (৫) Apostrophe (') — মালিকানা (Rahim's book) ও সংক্ষেপ (don't = do not)। মনে রাখুন: বাংলার দাঁড়ি (।) নয়, ইংরেজিতে full stop (.) ব্যবহার হয়; এবং প্রতিটি নতুন বাক্য বড় হাতের অক্ষরে শুরু হয়।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল

'I', the first word of a sentence, and country names always start with a capital letter.
Its raining and the dog wagged it's tail.
It's raining and the dog wagged its tail.
'It's' = it is (needs an apostrophe); 'its' (no apostrophe) shows possession.

A question ends with a question mark, not a full stop.
I like tea, and biscuits, and cake.
I like tea, biscuits and cake.
In a simple list, use commas between items and 'and' before the last one.

- Every sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with . ? or !. — প্রতিটি বাক্য বড় হাতের অক্ষরে শুরু হয় এবং . ? বা ! দিয়ে শেষ হয়।
- Use an apostrophe for missing letters (do not → don't) and for ownership (Sara's). — লুপ্ত অক্ষরের জন্য (do not → don't) এবং মালিকানার জন্য (Sara's) apostrophe ব্যবহার করুন।
- Read your sentence aloud — where you naturally pause is often where a comma goes. — বাক্যটি জোরে পড়ুন — যেখানে স্বাভাবিকভাবে থামেন, সেখানেই প্রায়ই comma বসে।
- In English, use a full stop (.), not the Bangla daari (।). — ইংরেজিতে বাংলার দাঁড়ি (।) নয়, full stop (.) ব্যবহার করুন।
