Common Writing Mistakes in English
Common Writing Mistakes in English (লেখায় সাধারণ ভুল)
Introductionভূমিকা
Most English writing errors are not random — the same handful appear again and again: missing articles, wrong prepositions, mixed-up tenses and a few tricky spellings. Learn to spot these, and your writing improves fast.
ইংরেজি লেখায় বেশিরভাগ ভুল এলোমেলো নয় — একই কয়েকটা বারবার আসে: article বাদ পড়া, ভুল preposition, tense গুলিয়ে ফেলা ও কিছু কঠিন বানান। এগুলো চিনতে শিখলে আপনার লেখা দ্রুত ভালো হবে।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
A 'common mistake' is a repeated error most learners make — such as writing 'I am agree' or 'discuss about'. Fixing the pattern once fixes it everywhere.
'Common mistake' হলো এমন ভুল যা বেশিরভাগ শিক্ষার্থী বারবার করে — যেমন 'I am agree' বা 'discuss about'। একবার প্যাটার্নটা ঠিক করলে সব জায়গায় ঠিক হয়ে যায়।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
বাংলাভাষীরা যেসব ভুল সবচেয়ে বেশি করেন সেগুলো চিনে নিন। এক, article: গণনাযোগ্য একবচন noun-এর আগে a/an/the লাগে — “I am student” নয়, “I am a student”। দুই, preposition: 'discuss about', 'married with', 'good in' ভুল — শুদ্ধ হলো 'discuss', 'married to', 'good at'। তিন, 'am/is/are' + verb: “I am agree” ভুল, কারণ agree নিজেই verb — লিখুন “I agree”। চার, tense মেশানো: এক বাক্যে past ও present গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না। পাঁচ, বানান: 'recieve' নয় 'receive', 'seperate' নয় 'separate', 'definately' নয় 'definitely'। ছয়, বাংলা word order সরাসরি অনুবাদ করবেন না — ইংরেজি সাধারণত Subject + Verb + Object ক্রমে চলে। লেখা শেষে একবার পড়ে এই ভুলগুলো খুঁজুন।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
I am agree with you.
I agree with you.
'Agree' is already a verb, so it does not take 'am/is/are' before it.
We discussed about the problem.
We discussed the problem.
'Discuss' is followed directly by the object — no 'about'.
I am student of class ten.
I am a student of class ten.
A singular countable noun needs an article: 'a student'.
She has good knowledge in English.
She has good knowledge of English.
The correct preposition after 'knowledge' is 'of', not 'in'.
Yesterday I go to the market.
Yesterday I went to the market.
'Yesterday' signals the past, so use the past tense 'went'.
Tipsটিপস
- Check every singular countable noun for a/an/the before you finish. — লেখা শেষের আগে প্রতিটি গণনাযোগ্য একবচন noun-এ a/an/the আছে কিনা দেখুন।
- Learn verbs with their prepositions as one unit: 'good at', 'married to', 'depend on'. — Verb ও তার preposition একসাথে শিখুন: 'good at', 'married to', 'depend on'।
- Keep one tense per idea; a time word like 'yesterday' sets the whole sentence. — এক ভাবনায় এক tense রাখুন; 'yesterday'-এর মতো সময়-শব্দ পুরো বাক্য ঠিক করে দেয়।
- Keep a short list of your own repeated spelling errors and re-read for them. — নিজের বারবার হওয়া বানান ভুলের একটা ছোট তালিকা রাখুন ও সেগুলো খুঁজে পড়ুন।

Why do Bangladeshi learners drop articles like 'a' and 'the'?
Bangla has no direct match for 'a/an/the', so it is easy to forget them. Check each singular countable noun and add the right article.
How can I stop making the same writing mistakes?
Keep a personal list of your repeated errors — a wrong preposition, a misspelled word — and re-read your writing once, hunting only for those.
Is it 'discuss about' or just 'discuss'?
Just 'discuss'. The verb is followed directly by the object: 'We discussed the topic', never 'discussed about the topic'.
