Definitionসংজ্ঞা
Health and body vocabulary covers three groups: parts of the body (head, chest, stomach, throat), symptoms — the signs of illness (fever, cough, pain, dizziness) — and treatment (medicine, prescription, rest). Around these we use verbs like 'hurt', 'ache' and 'feel'.
স্বাস্থ্য ও শরীরের শব্দভাণ্ডার তিন দলে ভাগ: শরীরের অংশ (head, chest, stomach, throat), উপসর্গ — অসুস্থতার লক্ষণ (fever, cough, pain, dizziness) — এবং চিকিৎসা (medicine, prescription, rest)। এদের ঘিরে আমরা 'hurt', 'ache', 'feel' ইত্যাদি verb ব্যবহার করি।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
শরীর খারাপ বোঝাতে ইংরেজিতে কয়েকটি গঠন মনে রাখুন। ব্যথা বোঝাতে: 'My head hurts' বা 'I have a headache'। শরীরের নির্দিষ্ট অংশ + ache একসাথে বসে কিছু শব্দে — headache (মাথাব্যথা), toothache (দাঁতব্যথা), stomachache (পেটব্যথা), backache (পিঠব্যথা)। উপসর্গ বলতে 'I have (a) …' ব্যবহার করুন: 'I have a fever' (জ্বর), 'I have a cough' (কাশি), 'I have a cold' (সর্দি)। মনে রাখবেন 'medicine' খাওয়া বোঝাতে 'take medicine' বলুন, 'eat medicine' নয়। ডাক্তার 'prescription' (ব্যবস্থাপত্র) দেন, আর ফার্মেসি থেকে ওষুধ নেওয়াকে বলে 'get the medicine'। সুস্থ হয়ে ওঠাকে বলে 'recover' বা 'get better'।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
I am fever.
I have a fever.
In English you 'have' a symptom, you are not the symptom. Say 'I have a fever/cough/cold', not 'I am fever'.
I ate two medicines today.
I took two tablets of medicine today.
You 'take' medicine, not 'eat' it. 'Medicine' is usually uncountable; count the units instead (tablets, pills, doses).
My whole body is paining.
My whole body aches. / I have pain all over my body.
'Pain' is a noun, not a verb, in standard English. Use 'ache' as the verb, or 'have pain'. 'Paining' is a common regional error.
The doctor gave me a good prescription of rest.
The doctor advised me to get plenty of rest.
A 'prescription' is a written order for medicine. For advice about rest or diet, use 'advise' or 'recommend'.
Tipsটিপস
- Learn the '-ache' family together: headache, toothache, stomachache, backache, earache. They all name a dull, lasting pain in that body part. — '-ache' পরিবারটি একসাথে শিখুন: headache, toothache, stomachache, backache, earache। এগুলো সেই অংশের চাপা, স্থায়ী ব্যথা বোঝায়।
- Master two sentence frames for the doctor: 'I have a …' (a symptom) and 'My … hurts' (a body part). With these two, you can describe almost any problem. — ডাক্তারের জন্য দুটি গঠন আয়ত্ত করুন: 'I have a …' (উপসর্গ) এবং 'My … hurts' (শরীরের অংশ)। এই দুটো দিয়েই প্রায় যেকোনো সমস্যা বোঝানো যায়।
- Remember the verb pairs 'fall ill / get sick' and 'recover / get better' so you can talk about becoming unwell and then well again. — 'fall ill / get sick' এবং 'recover / get better' — এই verb জোড়া মনে রাখুন, যাতে অসুস্থ হওয়া ও আবার সুস্থ হওয়ার কথা বলতে পারেন।

How do I tell a doctor what is wrong in English?
Use two simple frames: 'I have a …' for a symptom (I have a fever, I have a cough) and 'My … hurts' for a body part (My stomach hurts). Add when it started: 'since yesterday', 'for three days'.
Is it 'take medicine' or 'eat medicine'?
Always 'take medicine' in English, whether it is a tablet, syrup or injection. 'Eat medicine' is a direct translation error and sounds wrong to native speakers.
What is the difference between 'pain' and 'ache'?
'Pain' is the general noun for any hurting feeling and can be sharp or sudden. An 'ache' is usually a dull, continuous pain, often used with body parts (headache, backache). In English 'pain' is a noun, so avoid saying 'my body is paining'.
