Introductionভূমিকা

“This book is more easy than that one.” Nobody taught you that sentence; your first language did. Bangla has no comparative ending at all — you compare with চেয়ে and leave the adjective untouched: এই বইটা ওটার চেয়ে সহজ. Nothing in সহজ changes. So when English asks for a comparison, the hand reaches for the word that looks like চেয়ে-এর সঙ্গী — “more” — and the -er ending never gets a chance. Fixing that one habit tidies up half of everything you write about size, price and difficulty.

“This book is more easy than that one.”

Definitionসংজ্ঞা

An adjective describes a noun — big, beautiful, hot, expensive, honest, tired. In English it stands in front of the noun (a tall man, never a man tall) and it never takes a plural -s, however many things it is describing: two beautiful dresses, not two beautifuls dresses.

Adjective হলো noun-এর বর্ণনা — big, beautiful, hot, expensive, honest, tired। ইংরেজিতে এটা noun-এর আগে বসে (a tall man, কখনোই a man tall নয়), আর যত জিনিসের কথাই বলা হোক, adjective-এ কখনো বহুবচনের -s বসে না: two beautiful dresses, two beautifuls dresses নয়।

Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা

তুলনার নিয়মটা আগে পাকা করুন, কারণ এখানেই বাংলাভাষীদের সবচেয়ে বেশি ভুল হয়। ছোট বিশেষণে (এক syllable, আর -y দিয়ে শেষ হওয়া দুই syllable-এর শব্দে) -er আর -est বসে: big → bigger → biggest, easy → easier → easiest, cheap → cheaper → cheapest। লম্বা বিশেষণে more আর most: expensive → more expensive → most expensive, difficult → more difficult। “The class is boring” মানে ক্লাসটা একঘেয়ে; “I am bored in this class” মানে আমার একঘেয়ে লাগছে। ভুলটা হয় কারণ বাংলায় দুটো ভাব একই শব্দমূল দিয়ে চলে — “বিরক্তিকর ক্লাস”, “আমার বিরক্ত লাগছে” — পার্থক্যটা বসে লাগা বা করা-র ওপর, আলাদা বিশেষণের ওপর নয়। ইংরেজিতে জোড়াটা মনে রাখার নিয়ম এক লাইনে: -ing যা কারণ, -ed যে ভোগে। একই ছাঁচে interesting / interested, tiring / tired, confusing / confused, exciting / excited, surprising / surprised। আর শেখার কৌশল দুটো। এক, বিশেষণ শিখুন বিপরীত জোড়ায় — big / small, cheap / expensive, easy / difficult, honest / dishonest — এক পরিশ্রমে দুটো শব্দ ঢোকে, আর কথা বলার সময় বিপরীতটাই বেশি দরকার হয়। দুই, বিশেষণকে তার চেনা সঙ্গী noun-এর সাথে শিখুন: heavy rain (strong rain নয়), strong tea (heavy tea নয়), a warm smile, a sharp mind। ইংরেজি এই জোড়াগুলো অভ্যাসে বেঁধে রেখেছে, ব্যাকরণে নয় — তাই মুখস্থ করার সময় noun-টাসহ মুখস্থ করাই বুদ্ধিমানের কাজ।

Adjectives never take a plural -s in English, even before a plural noun.

Tipsটিপস

  • Learn adjectives in opposite pairs (big/small, cheap/expensive) — you memorise two words for the effort of one. adjective বিপরীত জোড়ায় শিখুন (big/small, cheap/expensive) — এক শব্দের পরিশ্রমে দুটি শব্দ মনে থাকে।
  • Remember the -ed / -ing pair: 'interesting' describes the thing, 'interested' describes you. -ed / -ing জোড়া মনে রাখুন: 'interesting' বস্তুকে বোঝায়, 'interested' আপনার অনুভূতি বোঝায়।
  • For long adjectives use 'more' and 'most' (more careful, most careful); for short ones use -er and -est. লম্বা adjective-এ 'more' ও 'most' ব্যবহার করুন (more careful, most careful); ছোটগুলোতে -er ও -est।
