'Tell me about your family' —
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
Talking about family means describing size ('There are five of us'), members ('I have an older brother'), jobs ('My father is a teacher') and closeness ('We're a close-knit family').
পরিবার নিয়ে কথা বলা মানে আকার বোঝানো ('There are five of us'), সদস্য ('I have an older brother'), পেশা ('My father is a teacher') আর ঘনিষ্ঠতা ('We're a close-knit family') বর্ণনা করা।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
পরিবারের আকার বোঝাতে সঠিক কাঠামো “There are + সংখ্যা + people in my family” অথবা “There are + সংখ্যা + of us।” মনে রাখবেন — “We are four members” বাংলা থেকে সরাসরি অনুবাদ, ইংরেজিতে বলি “There are four of us” বা “four people in my family।” ভাইবোন বোঝাতে “I have an older brother and a younger sister।” এখানে 'cousin brother/sister' নয় — শুধু “cousin” বলুন। বাবার পেশা বলতে “My father is a teacher” বা “My father works at a bank” বলুন; “service holder” ব্যবহার করবেন না। মা ঘরে থাকলে “My mother is a homemaker” বলা যায়। শেষে ঘনিষ্ঠতা বোঝাতে “We're a close family” বলতে পারেন।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
We are four members in my family.
There are four of us. / There are four people in my family.
'Four members' is a direct translation. Natural English is 'four of us' or 'four people in my family'.
He is my cousin brother.
He is my cousin.
'Cousin brother/sister' is South Asian English. Standard English just says 'cousin' for both.
My father is a service holder.
My father has a job. / My father works at a bank.
'Service holder' isn't used in English. Say they 'have a job' or name where they work.
My mother is house wife.
My mother is a homemaker. / My mother is a stay-at-home mum.
Use the article 'a', and the more natural word 'homemaker'. Two words 'housewife' is dated.
Tipsটিপস
- Start with the number, then the people: 'There are four of us — my parents, my sister and me.' — আগে সংখ্যা, তারপর মানুষগুলো বলুন: 'There are four of us — my parents, my sister and me.'
- Use 'older/younger' for siblings and 'elder/eldest' only before a noun: 'my elder brother', but 'he's older than me'. — ভাইবোনের জন্য 'older/younger' ব্যবহার করুন; 'elder/eldest' শুধু বিশেষ্যের আগে: 'my elder brother', কিন্তু 'he's older than me'।
- Add one small detail to sound natural: what someone does, where they live, or that you're close. — স্বাভাবিক শোনাতে একটা ছোট তথ্য যোগ করুন: কে কী করে, কোথায় থাকে, বা আপনারা ঘনিষ্ঠ কিনা।

How do I say how many people are in my family?
Use 'There are [number] of us' or 'There are [number] people in my family'. Avoid 'we are four members' — that's a direct translation from Bangla.
Is 'cousin brother' correct in English?
No. Standard English uses just 'cousin' for both male and female. You can add 'my cousin, on my mother's side' if you want to be specific.
How do I describe my parents' jobs?
Say 'My father is a [job]' or 'My mother works at [place]'. For a parent who stays home, 'homemaker' sounds more natural than 'housewife'.
