"Today is very heat." The sentence comes straight from "আজ খুব গরম", where Bangla needs no subject at all — the heat simply is. English refuses to start a sentence without a subject, so it invents one that means nothing: it. It's hot. It's raining. It's getting cold. That empty "it" is the whole lesson.

Weather English is built on one dummy subject and three verb patterns: it + be + adjective (it's hot), it + be + verb-ing (it's raining), and it + be getting + adjective (it's getting cold). Everything else is vocabulary.

তিনটে ছাঁচ মিলিয়ে নিন। অবস্থা বোঝাতে it + is + বিশেষণ: "It's hot." "It's humid." "It's chilly this evening." ঘটনা বোঝাতে it + is + ক্রিয়া-ing: "It's raining." — "Rain is falling" ব্যাকরণে ভুল নয়, কিন্তু ইংরেজিভাষী কেউ বলেন না; বৃষ্টি, তুষার, বাতাস — সবই ক্রিয়া হিসেবে চলে (it's raining, it's snowing, it's blowing a gale)। আর বদল বোঝাতে it + is getting: "It's getting cold." — "The weather is doing cold" নয়, do এখানে চলে না। আর গরম-এর দুটো রূপ আলাদা রাখুন: hot বিশেষণ, heat বিশেষ্য। "It's very hot today", "I can't stand this heat"। মাত্রার শব্দগুলো গুছিয়ে রাখলে বর্ণনাটা অনেক জীবন্ত হয়। গরম: warm → hot → boiling / scorching। ঠান্ডা: cool → chilly → cold → freezing। বৃষ্টি: drizzle (গুঁড়ি গুঁড়ি) → shower (হালকা পশলা) → downpour (মুষলধারে) → pouring ("It's pouring")। আর আমাদের সবচেয়ে দরকারি শব্দ humid — "It's so humid today" মানে ভ্যাপসা গরম, যেটা শুধু hot দিয়ে বোঝানো যায় না, অথচ ঢাকার গ্রীষ্মের আসল ব্যাপারটা ওটাই। আমাদের আবহাওয়ার কিছু জিনিসের সরাসরি ইংরেজি নেই, তাই বর্ণনা করে বলতে হয়। বাংলাদেশে ঋতু ছয়টা — গ্রীষ্ম, বর্ষা, শরৎ, হেমন্ত, শীত, বসন্ত — আর ইংরেজিতে চারটে; তাই "We have six seasons, but really the year splits into three: hot, rainy and cool." বলাই সবচেয়ে পরিষ্কার। বর্ষার ইংরেজি শব্দটা আছে — monsoon, আর সেটা ইংরেজি বাক্যেই ব্যবহার করা যায়: "The monsoon usually starts in June." কালবৈশাখীর কথা বললে ইংরেজি সংবাদে যে শব্দটা চলে সেটা nor'wester, তবে অচেনা শ্রোতার কাছে বর্ণনাই ভালো: "a sudden pre-monsoon storm with very strong wind." আর একটা সামাজিক কথা, বিশেষ করে যাঁরা ব্রিটেনে যাবেন। ওখানে আবহাওয়ার কথা তথ্য নয়, সৌজন্যের আচার — লিফটে, দোকানে, বাসস্ট্যান্ডে কেউ "Terrible weather, isn't it?" বললে তিনি আপনার মত জানতে চাইছেন না, একমত হওয়ার সুযোগ দিচ্ছেন। উত্তরটাও ছোট আর সম্মতিসূচক: "It really is." "Awful, isn't it?" "At least it's not as bad as yesterday." এই question tag-গুলো — isn't it, wasn't it — কথোপকথন শুরু করার সবচেয়ে সহজ হাতিয়ার, আর আবহাওয়াই সবচেয়ে নিরাপদ বিষয়।

Use the adjective 'hot' with 'It's', not the noun 'heat'.

For a change over time use 'getting', not 'doing'.
