At a tong on the corner you say "ek cup cha" and the whole transaction is over. A cafe counter runs on a script instead: size, milk, sugar, here or away, card or cash — five questions fired at you in about eight seconds, and knowing the script is the difference between calm and panic.

Ordering at a counter is one sentence from you and three or four short answers. You say what you want; they ask size, milk, and whether it is staying or going. Everything you need fits on one page.

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল

Give me one coffee.
Can I get a coffee, please?
'Give me' sounds like an order to a servant; 'Can I get…, please?' is the natural, polite way.
I want one tea.
I'll have a tea, please.
'I want' can sound rude; use 'I'll have' or 'Can I get'. Also say 'a tea', not 'one tea'.
How much taka?
How much is it?
Don't translate 'কত টাকা' word for word; the natural question is simply 'How much is it?'.
Parcel, please.
To go, please.
'Parcel' isn't used for cafe food; say 'to go' (US) or 'takeaway' (UK).

'Can I get…' is casual and friendly; 'Could I have…' is a little more formal and polite. — 'Can I get…' একটু ক্যাজুয়াল ও বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ; 'Could I have…' একটু বেশি ফরমাল ও ভদ্র।
If you don't catch the price, just ask 'Sorry, how much?' — it's completely normal. — দাম বুঝতে না পারলে শুধু বলুন 'Sorry, how much?' — এটা একদম স্বাভাবিক।
Smile and make eye contact; friendly body language matters as much as the words. — হাসুন আর চোখে চোখ রাখুন; বন্ধুত্বপূর্ণ শরীরী ভাষা শব্দের মতোই জরুরি।
