Getting lost in a new place happens to everyone. Knowing a few polite phrases to ask for directions in English lets you stop a stranger, understand the answer, and find your way with confidence.
নতুন জায়গায় পথ হারানো সবারই হয়। ইংরেজিতে ভদ্রভাবে রাস্তা জিজ্ঞেস করার কয়েকটি বাক্য জানা থাকলে আপনি সহজেই কাউকে থামিয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করতে পারবেন, উত্তরটা বুঝতে পারবেন এবং আত্মবিশ্বাসের সাথে পথ খুঁজে নিতে পারবেন।

Asking for directions means politely requesting help to reach a place: you get someone's attention, name the place, and ask where it is or how to get there.
রাস্তা জিজ্ঞেস করা মানে কোনো জায়গায় পৌঁছাতে ভদ্রভাবে সাহায্য চাওয়া: আগে কারও মনোযোগ নেওয়া, তারপর জায়গার নাম বলা, এবং সেটা কোথায় বা কীভাবে যাওয়া যায় তা জিজ্ঞেস করা।

সবসময় “Excuse me” দিয়ে শুরু করুন — এটা কাউকে থামানোর ভদ্র উপায়। এরপর জায়গার নাম দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করুন: “Where is the … ?” বা “How do I get to the … ?”। অচেনা মানুষকে জিজ্ঞেস করলে “Could you …?” বেশি ভদ্র শোনায়। বাংলায় আমরা প্রায়ই প্রশ্নশব্দ শেষে বসাই (“স্টেশনটা কোথায়?”), কিন্তু ইংরেজিতে প্রশ্নশব্দ (where, how) বাক্যের শুরুতে বসে। উত্তর শুনে বুঝতে “go straight” (সোজা যান), “turn left/right” (বাঁ/ডান দিকে ঘুরুন), “next to” (পাশে), “opposite” (উল্টো দিকে) — এই শব্দগুলো মনে রাখুন। শেষে “Thank you” বলতে ভুলবেন না।

In English the question word (where) goes first — not at the end as in the Bangla word order.
How much far is the bank?
How far is the bank?
Distance uses 'How far', not 'how much far'. 'How much' is for price or amount.
Please tell me the way of the airport.
Please tell me the way to the airport.
We say 'the way to' a place, not 'the way of'.
I am lost my way.
I've lost my way. / I'm lost.
Either use the verb ('I've lost my way') or the adjective ('I'm lost') — not both together.

- If you don't understand the answer, repeat it back: 'So, straight and then left?' and finish with 'Thank you.' — উত্তর না বুঝলে আবার বলে নিশ্চিত হোন: 'So, straight and then left?' — এবং শেষে 'Thank you' বলুন।
