/z/ is a voiced fricative: the tongue sits close to the ridge behind the top teeth, air keeps flowing through the gap, and the throat vibrates (zoo, prize, is). /dʒ/ — the j of jam and Bangla জ — is an affricate: the tongue blocks the air completely, then releases it in one burst.

"ju" for zoo, "jero" for zero

Bangla জ stops the air and releases it once. English /z/ never stops the air; it keeps flowing with the throat vibrating.
"hiss" for his, "price" for prize
his /hɪz/, prize /praɪz/
Replacing /z/ with /s/ makes a different English word: his becomes hiss, prize becomes price, rise becomes rice.
"eeji" for easy, "muzik" said with জ
easy /ˈiːzi/, music /ˈmjuːzɪk/
The s in these words is a /z/. Using জ turns the smooth buzz into a hard tap in the middle of the word.

After a voiced sound the plural -s is /z/. Bangla has no /z/ habit, so the ending defaults to a hiss.

Does Bangla have a z sound?
Bangla has no letter of its own for /z/. The closest habit is জ, which is a different sound — a burst rather than a steady buzz — so English words with z tend to come out with জ unless you practise the buzz deliberately.
Why is 'is' pronounced with a z when it is written with an s?
English spelling keeps the letter s in many words where the sound became /z/ long ago. is, was, has, his, these, those, please and because are all pronounced with a /z/, and this is a spelling habit rather than a rule you can predict from the letter alone.
What is the fastest way to check whether I am saying z or s?
Put a finger lightly on your throat and say the two sounds one after the other. /z/ vibrates under your finger, /s/ does not. The tongue and lips stay in exactly the same position for both.
