Our School Paragraph

Our school is a government high school standing on the main road at the edge of our town, and it was established in 1968. It has two three-storeyed buildings around an open field, with twenty-four classrooms, a science laboratory, a computer room, a library and a small mosque. About twelve hundred students study here from class six to class ten, and there are thirty-two teachers under a headmaster. Classes run from ten in the morning until four, with a break at one when the field fills completely. Besides the lessons there is a debating club, a scout troop, an annual sports day and a magazine we bring out once a year. Our results are good — most students pass and a fair number get top grades — and last year our team won the upazila football final. The school is not without problems. The classrooms hold sixty boys where forty would be comfortable, the laboratory has more equipment in the cupboard than in use, and the library is opened only one period a week. Still, most of us are attached to it, and I suspect we will understand why only after we have left.

আমাদের স্কুল একটি সরকারি উচ্চ বিদ্যালয়, শহরের কিনারে প্রধান সড়কের পাশে; প্রতিষ্ঠিত ১৯৬৮ সালে। খোলা একটি মাঠ ঘিরে দুটি তিনতলা ভবন — চব্বিশটি শ্রেণিকক্ষ, একটি বিজ্ঞানাগার, কম্পিউটার কক্ষ, লাইব্রেরি ও একটি ছোট মসজিদ। ষষ্ঠ থেকে দশম শ্রেণি পর্যন্ত এখানে পড়ে প্রায় বারোশো শিক্ষার্থী, প্রধান শিক্ষকের অধীনে শিক্ষক বত্রিশজন। ক্লাস চলে সকাল দশটা থেকে বিকেল চারটা, একটার দিকে বিরতি — তখন মাঠ পুরো ভরে যায়। পড়ার বাইরে আছে বিতর্ক ক্লাব, স্কাউট দল, বার্ষিক ক্রীড়া দিবস, আর বছরে একবার বের হওয়া একটি ম্যাগাজিন। আমাদের ফল ভালো — বেশিরভাগ শিক্ষার্থী পাস করে, ভালোসংখ্যক সর্বোচ্চ গ্রেড পায় — আর গত বছর আমাদের দল উপজেলা ফুটবল ফাইনাল জিতেছে।
