Sir, I shall be grateful if you kindly publish the following lines in the letters column of your widely circulated daily to draw the attention of the authorities concerned. Traffic on Mirpur Road has become almost unbearable. A journey from Shyamoli to Farmgate, which is about six kilometres, now takes more than an hour at any time between eight in the morning and nine at night. Students reach their examination halls late, patients wait in ambulances that cannot move, and office workers lose two hours of every working day. The causes are not a mystery. Buses stop wherever a passenger raises a hand instead of at the marked stops, three-wheelers use lanes meant for faster vehicles, footpaths are occupied by hawkers so pedestrians walk on the road, and the same stretch is dug up by one department after another. I would request the city corporation and the traffic authorities to enforce the marked bus stops, clear the footpaths, and coordinate road digging between departments.
