Sherpur 13 August 2026 My dear Sabbir, I hope you are well. I got your letter yesterday and was glad to hear that you have settled into your new school. You asked what you should do with the free hour you have before evening study. My advice is simple: read a newspaper every day. I say this because a newspaper does in twenty minutes what nothing else can. It tells you what is happening in your own country and beyond it, so that you are not the last person in a conversation to know something. For students like us it is also the cheapest teacher of English there is. The editorial page will teach you more sentence patterns in a month than a grammar book teaches in a term, and the new words stay with you because you met them in a real sentence rather than in a list. There is a practical side too. Job notices, scholarship announcements and examination results all appear there first. And when you sit for an interview one day, the person across the table will notice at once whether you read. Do not try to read all of it.
