The imperative mood is how we give commands, instructions, warnings and requests: 'Sit down.', 'Open the book.', 'Please help me.' It is short, direct and one of the easiest structures in English — the verb comes first and the subject 'you' is understood.

An imperative sentence gives a command or request. It begins with the base form of the verb and the subject 'you' is hidden (understood): 'Close the door.' means 'You close the door.'

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল

In an imperative the subject 'you' is dropped; start directly with the verb.
Not touch the wire.

A negative imperative needs 'Do not' or 'Don't' before the verb.

The imperative always uses the base verb — never add -s.
