Introductionভূমিকা

Nearly every Bangladeshi learner meets this tense before any other, and nearly every one of us gets the same thing wrong for years: the -s on he, she and it. “He go to school” is not a careless slip. Bangla verbs simply do not change for a third person — সে যায়, তারা যায়, same word — so there is nothing in your first language to warn you that English needs one letter there. That single letter is what a board examiner, an interviewer and a customer all notice first.

বাংলাদেশে প্রায় সবাই সবার আগে এই tense-টাই শেখে, আর প্রায় সবাই একই ভুল বছরের পর বছর করে — he / she / it-এর পরে verb-এ -s না বসানো। “He go to school” অসাবধানতার ভুল নয়। বাংলায় verb তৃতীয় পুরুষে বদলায় না — সে যায়, তারা যায়, একই শব্দ — তাই মাতৃভাষায় কোনো সংকেতই নেই যে ইংরেজিতে এখানে একটা অক্ষর লাগবে। বোর্ড পরীক্ষক, ইন্টারভিউ বোর্ড আর কাস্টমার — তিনজনেরই চোখে সবার আগে ওই এক অক্ষরটাই পড়ে।

Definitionসংজ্ঞা

The present simple is the plain form of the verb — the form you find in a dictionary — with -s or -es added when the subject is he, she, it, or any single person or thing you could replace with one of those. I work. My brother works. The bus leaves at eight.

Present simple মানে verb-এর সাধারণ রূপ — অভিধানে যে রূপটা পাওয়া যায় — আর subject যখন he / she / it, বা এমন একটি ব্যক্তি বা বস্তু যাকে ওই তিনটির একটি দিয়ে বদলানো যায়, তখন তাতে -s বা -es যোগ হয়। I work. My brother works. The bus leaves at eight।

Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা

নিয়মটা এক লাইনে: I / we / you / they-এর সাথে verb-এর মূল রূপ, আর he / she / it-এর সাথে verb-এ -s বা -es। কিন্তু নিয়ম মুখস্থ করেও ভুল হয়, কারণ পরীক্ষার খাতায় subject কখনো “he” লেখা থাকে না — থাকে “My father”, “The teacher”, “Rahim’s younger brother”। তাই কাজটা এই: subject-কে মনে মনে he / she / it / they দিয়ে বদলে নাও। “My father” → he → works. “My parents” → they → work. এইটুকু করলেই -s-এর ভুল প্রায় শেষ। দ্বিতীয় ফাঁদ do / does নিয়ে। প্রশ্ন বা না-বোধক বাক্যে -s চলে যায় does-এর ঘরে, verb আবার মূল রূপে ফেরে — “Does she work?” হয়, “Does she works?” হয় না। একই কথা negative-এ: “He does not eat meat.” বাংলায় এই দ্বিতীয় জায়গা বলে কিছু নেই, তাই এখানেই SSC-HSC পরীক্ষার্থীরা সবচেয়ে বেশি নম্বর হারায়। আর মনে রেখো, present simple মানে “এখন ঘটছে” নয়। “I eat rice” মানে ভাত খাওয়া আমার অভ্যাস; এই মুহূর্তে খাচ্ছি বললে “I am eating rice”। বাংলায় দুটোই “আমি ভাত খাই” হতে পারে বলেই এই দুটো গুলিয়ে যায়।

Examplesউদাহরণ

  • I drink tea every morning.আমি প্রতিদিন সকালে চা খাই।
  • The sun rises in the east.সূর্য পূর্ব দিকে ওঠে।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল

  • She go to school.

    She goes to school.

With he/she/it we add -s/-es to the verb (go → goes).

  • He doesn't likes coffee.

    He doesn't like coffee.

After 'does/doesn't' the main verb goes back to its base form (like, not likes).

  • Do she know you?

    Does she know you?

With he/she/it, questions use 'does', not 'do'.

Tipsটিপস

  • Only the he/she/it form changes — everything else uses the plain verb. শুধু he/she/it রূপ বদলায় — বাকি সব জায়গায় verb-এর মূল রূপ বসে।
  • Once you add 'does' or 'doesn't', drop the -s from the main verb. 'does' বা 'doesn't' বসালে মূল verb থেকে -s বাদ দিন।
