Present Perfect Tense
Present Perfect Tense (পুরাঘটিত বর্তমান কাল)
Introductionভূমিকা
The present perfect tense connects the past with the present. We use it when something happened before now but still matters now — a finished action with a present result, an experience in your life, or something that started in the past and continues today. It is one of the most useful tenses in real English, and once the pattern clicks, you will use it every day.
Present perfect tense অতীত আর বর্তমানকে যুক্ত করে। কোনো কাজ এখন-এর আগে ঘটেছে কিন্তু এখনও প্রভাব রাখছে — এমন সময় এই tense ব্যবহার করি। ইংরেজিতে খুব দরকারি একটা tense, একবার নিয়মটা বুঝলে প্রতিদিন কাজে লাগবে।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
The present perfect tense is formed with have or has + the past participle (the third form of the verb): I have eaten, She has gone, We have finished.
Present perfect tense গঠন হয়: have / has + past participle (verb-এর তৃতীয় রূপ) দিয়ে। যেমন — I have eaten, She has gone, We have finished।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
সহজ নিয়ম: subject অনুযায়ী have বা has বসে, তারপর verb-এর past participle (V3)। I / we / you / they-এর সাথে have, আর he / she / it (একবচন)-এর সাথে has। যেমন — “I have done it” (আমি করে ফেলেছি), “She has come” (সে এসে গেছে)। কাজটা কখন হয়েছে তা বলা হয় না — শুধু এখন যে ফলটা আছে সেটাই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। just, already, yet, ever, never, since, for — এই শব্দগুলো প্রায়ই present perfect-এর সাথে আসে।
Examplesউদাহরণ
- I have finished my homework.আমি আমার হোমওয়ার্ক শেষ করে ফেলেছি।
- She has visited Cox's Bazar three times.সে কক্সবাজার তিনবার গিয়েছে।
- We have lived in Dhaka since 2010.আমরা ২০১০ সাল থেকে ঢাকায় থাকি।
- Have you ever eaten sushi?তুমি কি কখনও সুশি খেয়েছ?
- They have not arrived yet.তারা এখনও পৌঁছায়নি।
Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
I have went to school.
I have gone to school.
After have/has we use the past participle (V3). The past participle of 'go' is 'gone', not 'went'.
She have finished.
She has finished.
With he/she/it (singular) we use 'has', not 'have'.
I have seen him yesterday.
I saw him yesterday.
With a finished past time like 'yesterday', use the past simple. Present perfect avoids a specific past time.
Tipsটিপস
- If you can add a specific past time (yesterday, in 2019, last week), use the past simple instead. — নির্দিষ্ট অতীত সময় (yesterday, in 2019) বসাতে পারলে present perfect নয়, past simple ব্যবহার করুন।
- Use 'since' for a starting point (since Monday) and 'for' for a length of time (for two years). — শুরুর বিন্দু বোঝাতে 'since' (since Monday), আর সময়ের দৈর্ঘ্য বোঝাতে 'for' (for two years)।
- 'Just', 'already' and 'yet' are your signal words — they almost always go with the present perfect. — 'just', 'already', 'yet' — এই সংকেত-শব্দগুলো প্রায় সবসময় present perfect-এর সাথে বসে।

What is the present perfect tense in simple words?
It is a tense that links a past action to the present, formed with have or has plus the past participle — for example, 'I have finished my work.' It shows the action matters now, without saying exactly when it happened.
When do we use present perfect instead of past simple?
Use the present perfect when the time is unspecified or the result matters now (I have lost my keys). Use the past simple when you mention a finished past time (I lost my keys yesterday).
What is the structure of the present perfect tense?
Subject + have/has + past participle. Use 'have' with I/we/you/they and 'has' with he/she/it.
