So, Such, Too and Enough
So, Such, Too and Enough (এতটা / এত / খুব বেশি / যথেষ্ট)
Introductionভূমিকা
The tea comes to the table steaming and you want to say you cannot drink it yet. Bangla gives you one shape for the whole thought — চা এত গরম যে খাওয়া যাচ্ছে না — and English gives you two, one with that and one with to. Pick the wrong half of either and you get “too hot that I cannot drink it”, a sentence that turns up in exam scripts every year because it is a faithful translation of a Bangla one.
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
So and too go in front of an adjective or adverb; such goes in front of a noun phrase; enough goes after an adjective or adverb but in front of a noun. Too means more than is wanted; enough means the amount that is wanted.
So আর too বসে adjective বা adverb-এর সামনে; such বসে noun phrase-এর সামনে; enough বসে adjective বা adverb-এর পরে, কিন্তু noun-এর আগে। Too মানে দরকারের চেয়ে বেশি; enough মানে ঠিক যতটা দরকার।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
গঠনগুলো আগে আলাদা করে দেখুন। **so** বসে adjective বা adverb-এর আগে — so hot, so quickly। **such** বসে noun-সহ শব্দগুচ্ছের আগে — such a hot day, such nice people। এক লাইনে: **noun থাকলে such, না থাকলে so।** 'It was **so** hot' ✅, 'It was **such a** hot day' ✅, কিন্তু 'It was so a hot day' ❌। **too** বসে adjective-এর আগে, আর এর সুরটা সবসময় নেতিবাচক — দরকারের চেয়ে বেশি, তাই কাজটা হচ্ছে না: 'The tea is **too hot** to drink'। **enough** বসে adjective বা adverb-এর **পরে**, কিন্তু noun-এর **আগে**: 'old **enough**', 'strong **enough**', কিন্তু '**enough** money', '**enough** time'। এই অবস্থানটাই বাংলাভাষীদের কাছে উল্টো লাগে, কারণ বাংলায় 'যথেষ্ট' সবসময় আগে বসে — 'যথেষ্ট বড়'। ইংরেজিতে হবে 'big **enough**', 'enough big' নয়। এবার সেই দুটো ছাঁচ, যেগুলো গুলিয়ে গেলে নম্বর যায়। **so … that** আর **such … that** — দুটোরই পরে একটা গোটা বাক্য বসে: 'It was **so** cold **that we stayed home**', 'It was **such a** good film **that I watched it twice**'। আর **too … to** এবং **enough … to** — দুটোরই পরে to + verb-এর মূল রূপ বসে, কোনো clause নয়: 'The tea is **too hot to drink**', 'He is **strong enough to lift** it'। মিশিয়ে ফেললেই ভুল: 'too hot that I cannot drink' ❌, 'so hot to drink' ❌। একটা রূপান্তরের নিয়ম মনে রাখলে খাতায় খুব কাজে দেয়, কারণ প্রশ্নে প্রায়ই এক ছাঁচ থেকে আরেক ছাঁচে নিতে বলা হয়। 'He is **so** weak **that he cannot walk**' = 'He is **too** weak **to walk**'। লক্ষ করুন, too-র ছাঁচে গেলে বাক্য থেকে **not** উবে যায় — কারণ নেতিবাচকতাটা too-র ভেতরেই ঢোকা আছে। একইভাবে 'He is **strong enough to** carry it' = 'He is **so** strong **that he can** carry it'। শেষে দুটো ছোট কথা। এক, so-এর সাথে many, much, few, little বসতে পারে — 'so many people', 'so much noise' — কিন্তু such-এর সাথে নয়। দুই, enough একা noun-এর মতোও বসতে পারে: 'That's **enough**', 'I have had enough' — কথোপকথনে এই দুটো লাইন খুব কাজে দেয়।
