A pronoun is a word that stands in for a noun so you do not repeat it. Instead of 'Rahim said Rahim was tired,' you say 'Rahim said he was tired.' Pronouns keep English short and smooth — but you must pick the right form.
Pronoun হলো এমন শব্দ যা noun-এর জায়গায় বসে, যাতে বারবার একই noun বলতে না হয়। 'Rahim said Rahim was tired' না বলে বলি 'Rahim said he was tired'। Pronoun ইংরেজিকে সংক্ষিপ্ত ও সাবলীল রাখে — তবে সঠিক রূপটি বাছতে হবে।

A pronoun replaces a noun or noun phrase. The main types are personal (I, you, he), which split into subject (I, he, they) and object (me, him, them); possessive (my, mine, their, theirs); and reflexive (myself, herself, themselves).
Pronoun একটি noun বা noun phrase-এর বদলে বসে। প্রধান ধরনগুলো — personal (I, you, he), যা subject (I, he, they) ও object (me, him, them)-এ ভাগ হয়; possessive (my, mine, their, theirs); এবং reflexive (myself, herself, themselves)।

Subject pronoun (কর্তা): বাক্যের শুরুতে, ক্রিয়ার কর্তা হিসেবে বসে — I, you, he, she, it, we, they। Object pronoun (কর্ম): ক্রিয়া বা preposition-এর পরে বসে — me, you, him, her, it, us, them (যেমন: She helped me. Give it to them.)। Possessive: my/your/his/her/its/our/their noun-এর আগে বসে (my book), আর mine/yours/his/hers/ours/theirs একা বসে (This book is mine.)। Reflexive: কর্তা ও কর্ম একই ব্যক্তি হলে — myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves (I hurt myself.)। মনে রাখবেন, 'it' জড় বস্তু ও প্রাণীর জন্য, আর ইংরেজিতে subject সাধারণত বাদ দেওয়া যায় না।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
Me and my friend went to school.
My friend and I went to school.
As the subject of the verb, use 'I', not 'me' — and mention yourself last.
She gave the gift to he.
She gave the gift to him.
After a preposition like 'to', use the object pronoun 'him', not 'he'.
This bag is your.
This bag is yours.
When the possessive stands alone (not before a noun), use 'yours', not 'your'.
He hurt hisself.
He hurt himself.
The reflexive pronoun is 'himself'; 'hisself' is not a standard English word.

- Subject pronouns do the action; object pronouns receive it: He called them. — Subject pronoun কাজ করে, object pronoun কাজ গ্রহণ করে: He called them।
- To test 'I' vs 'me', remove the other person: (My friend and) I went — 'I went' sounds right. — 'I' না 'me' যাচাই করতে অন্য ব্যক্তিকে সরান: (My friend and) I went — 'I went' ঠিক শোনায়।
- Possessive pronouns like mine, yours and theirs never take an apostrophe. — mine, yours, theirs-এর মতো possessive pronoun-এ কখনো apostrophe বসে না।
