Present Perfect vs Past Simple
Present Perfect vs Past Simple (পার্থক্য)
Introductionভূমিকা
The present perfect and the past simple both talk about the past, but English speakers choose between them very deliberately. The past simple points to a finished time; the present perfect connects the past to now. Getting this right makes your English sound natural.
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
Use the past simple for a finished action at a known past time (I saw him yesterday). Use the present perfect for a past action linked to the present, with no specific time (I have seen that film).
নির্দিষ্ট অতীত সময়ের শেষ হওয়া কাজের জন্য past simple (I saw him yesterday)। নির্দিষ্ট সময় ছাড়া, বর্তমানের সাথে যুক্ত অতীত কাজের জন্য present perfect (I have seen that film)।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
মূল পার্থক্য: past simple = নির্দিষ্ট শেষ সময় (yesterday, last year, in 2010, ... ago)। present perfect = সময় অনির্দিষ্ট অথবা এখনও প্রভাব আছে (already, yet, just, ever, never, for, since)। যেমন — 'I lost my keys yesterday.' (নির্দিষ্ট সময় → past simple) কিন্তু 'I have lost my keys.' (এখনও চাবি পাচ্ছি না → present perfect)। মনে রাখুন: yesterday, last..., ... ago থাকলে past simple; since ও for (এখন পর্যন্ত সময়কাল) থাকলে present perfect।

Tipsটিপস

- If you can ask 'when exactly?', use the past simple. — 'ঠিক কখন?' জিজ্ঞাসা করা গেলে past simple ব্যবহার করুন।

What is the main difference between the present perfect and the past simple?
The past simple describes an action at a finished past time (I called her yesterday). The present perfect links a past action to now, without a specific time (I have called her — recently, and it matters now).
Can I use 'yesterday' with the present perfect?
No. Specific finished-time words like yesterday, last week, or 'in 2010' always take the past simple. Use the present perfect only when the time is unspecified or still open.
Why do we use the present perfect with 'since' and 'for'?
'Since' (since Monday) and 'for' (for three years) describe a period that continues up to the present, which is exactly what the present perfect expresses.
