Present Continuous Tense
Present Continuous Tense (ঘটমান বর্তমান কাল)
Introductionভূমিকা
The present continuous tense (also called the present progressive) describes an action that is happening right now, at the moment of speaking. When you say 'I am reading this sentence', you are using it. It is one of the first tenses you need for natural, everyday English.
Present continuous tense (present progressive নামেও পরিচিত) এমন কাজ বোঝায় যা এই মুহূর্তে, কথা বলার সময় ঘটছে। 'I am reading this sentence' বললেই আপনি এটি ব্যবহার করছেন। স্বাভাবিক, প্রতিদিনের ইংরেজির জন্য এটি প্রথম দিকের একটি tense।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
The present continuous is formed with the verb 'be' (am/is/are) plus the -ing form of the main verb: I am working, She is working, They are working.
Present continuous তৈরি হয় 'be' verb (am/is/are)-এর সাথে মূল verb-এর -ing রূপ যোগ করে। যেমন — I am working, She is working, They are working।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
গঠন: subject + am/is/are + verb-এর -ing রূপ। I-এর সাথে am, he/she/it-এর সাথে is, এবং we/you/they-এর সাথে are বসে। যেমন — I am eating, He is eating, They are eating। প্রশ্ন করতে am/is/are সামনে আনুন: 'Are you coming?' না-বোধক করতে not বসান: 'She is not sleeping.' এই tense বোঝায় এখন চলছে এমন কাজ। now, right now, at the moment, at present, look!, listen! — এই শব্দগুলো present continuous-এর সাথে আসে। মনে রাখবেন, like, know, want, love-এর মতো state verb সাধারণত continuous-এ বসে না।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
I am go to school now.
I am going to school now.
After am/is/are the main verb must take -ing (go → going).
She reading a book.
She is reading a book.
The present continuous always needs the 'be' verb (is) before the -ing form.
I am knowing the answer.
I know the answer.
State verbs like know, like, want and love are not usually used in the continuous.
He is runing fast.
He is running fast.
A short verb ending in one vowel + one consonant doubles the last letter: run → running.
Tipsটিপস
- Use I am, he/she/it is, and we/you/they are — match the 'be' verb to the subject. — I am, he/she/it is, we/you/they are — subject অনুযায়ী 'be' verb বসান।
- If a verb ends in 'e', drop the 'e' before -ing: make → making, write → writing. — verb-এর শেষে 'e' থাকলে -ing যোগের আগে 'e' বাদ দিন: make → making, write → writing।
- Signal words like now, look! and listen! usually mean present continuous. — now, look!, listen! — এই signal word থাকলে সাধারণত present continuous বসে।
- The present continuous can also describe fixed future plans: I am meeting her tomorrow. — নির্দিষ্ট ভবিষ্যৎ পরিকল্পনাও present continuous-এ বলা যায়: I am meeting her tomorrow।
