Possessive Adjectives and Pronouns
Possessive Adjectives ও Pronouns (মালিকানা বোঝানো)
Introductionভূমিকা
Possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) and possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) both show who owns something. The difference is simple: an adjective comes before a noun, while a pronoun stands alone and replaces the noun.
Possessive adjectives (my, your, his, her, its, our, their) ও possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, ours, theirs) দুটোই বোঝায় কোনো কিছুর মালিক কে। পার্থক্য সহজ: adjective noun-এর আগে বসে, আর pronoun একা বসে ও noun-এর জায়গা নেয়।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
A possessive adjective describes a noun and always has a noun after it (my book). A possessive pronoun replaces the noun completely and stands alone (This book is mine).
Possessive adjective একটি noun-কে বর্ণনা করে এবং এর পরে সবসময় একটি noun থাকে (my book)। Possessive pronoun noun-টিকে পুরোপুরি প্রতিস্থাপন করে এবং একা বসে (This book is mine)।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
জোড়া মিলিয়ে মনে রাখুন — Adjective + noun: my/your/his/her/its/our/their। Pronoun (একা বসে): mine/yours/his/hers/-/ours/theirs। যেমন — “This is my pen.” (adjective, পরে noun 'pen' আছে) কিন্তু “This pen is mine.” (pronoun, একা বসেছে)। খেয়াল রাখুন: possessive-এ কখনো apostrophe (') বসে না — its মানে মালিকানা, আর it's মানে it is। এবং 'his' দুই কাজেই এক থাকে: “his car” ও “The car is his.”

What is the difference between a possessive adjective and a possessive pronoun?
A possessive adjective comes before a noun (my book, her car). A possessive pronoun stands alone and replaces the noun (The book is mine, The car is hers).
Do possessive words use an apostrophe?
No. Possessives like its, yours, hers, ours and theirs never take an apostrophe. 'It's' with an apostrophe always means 'it is'.
Why is 'his' listed twice?
Because 'his' is both the adjective (his phone) and the pronoun (The phone is his) — the word does not change form.
