Past Perfect Tense
Past Perfect Tense (পুরাঘটিত অতীত কাল)
Introductionভূমিকা
The past perfect tense describes an action that was already finished before another past action happened. It is the 'past of the past'. When you say 'The train had left before I reached the station', the past perfect shows which event came first.
Past perfect tense এমন কাজ বোঝায় যা অতীতের আরেকটি কাজের আগেই শেষ হয়ে গিয়েছিল। এটিকে বলা যায় 'অতীতেরও অতীত'। 'The train had left before I reached the station' বললে past perfect দেখায় কোন ঘটনাটি আগে ঘটেছিল।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
The past perfect is formed with 'had' plus the past participle (the third form) of the main verb: I had worked, She had gone, They had eaten.
Past perfect তৈরি হয় 'had'-এর সাথে মূল verb-এর past participle (তৃতীয় রূপ) যোগ করে। যেমন — I had worked, She had gone, They had eaten।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
গঠন: subject + had + verb-এর past participle (তৃতীয় রূপ)। 'had' সব subject-এর জন্য একই থাকে — I had, she had, they had। Past participle মনে রাখতে হয়: go → gone, eat → eaten, write → written, see → seen; regular verb-এ -ed বসে (finish → finished)। এই tense বোঝায় অতীতের দুটি কাজের মধ্যে যেটি আগে ঘটেছিল সেটিতে past perfect আর পরেরটিতে past simple বসে: 'When I arrived, the meeting had already started.' before, after, already, by the time, when — এই শব্দগুলো প্রায়ই past perfect-এর সাথে আসে। প্রশ্নে had সামনে আনুন: 'Had you eaten?' না-বোধক করতে 'had not' বসান।

Subject + had + past participle (the third form of the verb). 'Had' is the same for all subjects: I had gone, she had gone, they had gone.
