Countable and Uncountable Nouns
Countable and Uncountable Nouns (গণনাযোগ্য ও অগণনাযোগ্য বিশেষ্য)
Introductionভূমিকা
Some nouns you can count one by one — one apple, two apples. Others you cannot count directly — water, rice, information. English treats these two groups differently, and knowing which is which decides whether you say 'many' or 'much', 'a' or 'some'.
কিছু noun আপনি একটি-দুটি করে গুনতে পারেন — one apple, two apples। কিছু noun সরাসরি গোনা যায় না — water, rice, information। ইংরেজি এই দুই দলকে আলাদাভাবে ব্যবহার করে, আর কোনটা কোন দল জানলেই ঠিক হয় আপনি 'many' বলবেন না 'much', 'a' বলবেন না 'some'।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
Countable nouns have singular and plural forms and can take a number (a chair, three chairs). Uncountable nouns have no plural form and cannot take a number directly (water, not 'two waters'); we measure them with a unit like 'a glass of water'.
Countable noun-এর একবচন ও বহুবচন থাকে এবং সংখ্যা বসানো যায় (a chair, three chairs)। Uncountable noun-এর বহুবচন হয় না এবং সরাসরি সংখ্যা বসে না (water, 'two waters' নয়); এদের মাপি একক দিয়ে — 'a glass of water'।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
Countable noun: গোনা যায়, বহুবচন হয় — book/books, boy/boys, egg/eggs। এদের আগে a/an বসতে পারে এবং many, few ব্যবহার হয়: many books, a few eggs। Uncountable noun: গোনা যায় না, বহুবচন হয় না — water, milk, rice, sugar, money, information, advice, furniture, news। এদের আগে a/an বসে না; বদলে some, much, little ব্যবহার হয়: some water, much sugar, a little money। মাপতে হলে একক লাগে: a glass of water, a kilo of rice, a piece of advice। মনে রাখবেন — কিছু বাংলায় গোনা গেলেও ইংরেজিতে uncountable, যেমন information, advice, furniture।
