Open almost any office inbox in Dhaka and the line is waiting for you: “Please advice.” It is written politely, everyone understands it, and it is wrong — the sentence has a slot for a verb and someone has dropped a noun into it. The correct phrase, the one used in offices worldwide, is “Please advise.” One letter, and it happens to be the letter people notice.

Advice, with a c, is the noun — the thing that gets given. Advise, with an s, is the verb — the act of giving it. They are not even pronounced the same: advice ends in an s sound, advise ends in a z sound. And advice is uncountable, so it never takes -s and never takes a.
Advice, c দিয়ে, হলো noun — যে জিনিসটা দেওয়া হয়। Advise, s দিয়ে, হলো verb — দেওয়ার কাজটা। উচ্চারণও এক নয়: advice শেষ হয় স-এর শব্দে, advise শেষ হয় জ-এর শব্দে। আর advice অগণনীয়, তাই এতে কখনো -s বসে না, a-ও বসে না।

বানান গেঁথে নেওয়ার সহজ উপায়: c মানে noun (ice-এর মতো, একটা জিনিস), s মানে verb (rise-এর মতো, একটা কাজ)। উচ্চারণটাই আসল ধরিয়ে দেওয়ার জায়গা — advice বললে শেষে স-এর শব্দ, advise বললে জ-এর শব্দ। আমরা দুটোকেই 'অ্যাডভাইস' বলে ফেলি বলেই লেখার সময় হাত ভুল অক্ষরে চলে যায়। একই ছাঁচে আরও কয়েক জোড়া আছে: practice আর practise, licence আর license, device আর devise। এদের প্রত্যেকটিতে c-ওয়ালাটা বিশেষ্য, s-ওয়ালাটা ক্রিয়া। এবার বড় সমস্যাটা, যেটা বানানের চেয়ে অনেক বেশি ধরা পড়ে। Advice অগণনীয় — চাল, পানি বা বালির মতো। তাই 'an advice' হয় না, 'advices' হয় না, 'many advices' হয় না। গুনতে হলে বলতে হবে a piece of advice, some advice, a lot of advice, কিংবা two pieces of advice। বাংলায় আমরা অনায়াসে বলি 'একটা উপদেশ দিই', 'অনেকগুলো পরামর্শ পেয়েছি' — তাই মাথা যা বলে হাত তাই লেখে। একই দলের আরও শব্দ, যেগুলো বাংলায় গোনা যায় কিন্তু ইংরেজিতে যায় না: information, furniture, equipment, luggage, news, work, research, machinery। এদের কোনোটাতেই -s বসে না, আর প্রত্যেকটিই singular verb নেয় — “This information is correct”, “The news was good”। Advise verb হিসেবে কীভাবে বসে, সেটাও আলাদা করে দেখা দরকার। এর গঠন হলো advise somebody to do something — “The doctor advised him to rest।” মাঝখানে to বসে না: “He advised to me” ভুল, “He advised me” ঠিক। কর্তা না বললেও চলে, তখন সরাসরি -ing রূপ আসে — “I advise waiting a few days।” আর দরখাস্ত বা অফিসের চিঠিতে যেটা কাজে লাগে: “Please advise” বা “Kindly advise on the matter” — এটাই স্বাভাবিক পেশাদার ইংরেজি, এবং এখানে সবসময় s। একটা কাছাকাছি ভুলও এখানে জুড়ে নেওয়া ভালো, কারণ দুটো প্রায় একসাথেই হয়। Advise-এর মতো দেখতে হলেও suggest এভাবে বসে না। “He suggested me a plan” ভুল; হবে “He suggested a plan to me” বা “He suggested that I take the train।” Advise মানুষকে সরাসরি object হিসেবে নেয়, suggest নেয় না — এই পার্থক্যটা মনে রাখলে দুটো শব্দই নিরাপদ হয়ে যায়।

After 'to' you need the verb, and the verb is spelt with an s.

Why is 'advice' uncountable when 'suggestion' is countable?
There is no logic to find — English simply assigns countability word by word, and this pair happens to split. Learn them as a pair: 'a suggestion' but 'some advice'.
Is 'advise' ever a noun?
Only in old formal business English ('as per our advise'), which nobody writes now. Treat advise as a verb only.
Do British and American English spell these differently?
Not these two — advice/advise is the same everywhere. But practice/practise does differ: Americans spell both 'practice'. In Bangladesh, follow British spelling.
