Bangla runs all of this on one word. অনেক বই, অনেক পানি, অনেক সময় — অনেক never has to ask what kind of noun follows it. English keeps three expressions for the same idea, and then adds a second condition nobody mentions in class: even when much is the grammatically correct partner, a positive sentence usually refuses it. “I have much money” is not wrong so much as strange, and strange is harder to fix than wrong.

Many goes with countable plural nouns, much goes with uncountable nouns, and a lot of goes with both. But there is a second rule on top of the first: much and many belong mainly to negatives and questions, while positive statements normally take a lot of.

Many বসে গোনা যায় এমন বহুবচন noun-এর সাথে, much বসে গোনা যায় না এমন noun-এর সাথে, আর a lot of দুটোতেই বসে। তবে এর উপরে আরেকটা নিয়ম আছে: much আর many-র ঘর মূলত না-বোধক বাক্য ও প্রশ্নে, আর হ্যাঁ-বোধক বাক্যে সাধারণত a lot of বসে।

I have much friends.
I have many friends / a lot of friends.
'friends' is countable, so use 'many' (or 'a lot of'), not 'much'.
She drinks many water.

'water' is uncountable, so use 'much' (or 'a lot of'), not 'many'.

The countable plural 'books' takes 'many' in questions.
I have much homework today.

In positive sentences 'a lot of' is more natural than 'much'; keep 'much' for negatives and questions.
