Prepositions of Movement
Prepositions of Movement (চলাচলের preposition)
Introductionভূমিকা
Prepositions of movement show direction — how someone or something moves from one place to another. Small words like to, into, through and across change the whole meaning of a sentence, so learning them well makes your English much clearer.
Prepositions of movement দিক নির্দেশ করে — কেউ বা কিছু এক জায়গা থেকে আরেক জায়গায় কীভাবে যায়। to, into, through, across-এর মতো ছোট শব্দ পুরো বাক্যের অর্থ বদলে দেয়, তাই এগুলো ভালোভাবে শিখলে ইংরেজি অনেক স্পষ্ট হয়।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
Prepositions of movement (to, into, onto, out of, through, across, along, over, under, towards, past) describe the direction or path of a moving person or thing, usually after a verb of motion like go, walk, run or drive.
Prepositions of movement (to, into, onto, out of, through, across, along, over, under, towards, past) কোনো চলমান ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর দিক বা পথ বোঝায় — সাধারণত go, walk, run, drive-এর মতো গতিসূচক verb-এর পরে বসে।
Bangla Explanationবাংলা ব্যাখ্যা
এগুলো গতিসূচক verb-এর সাথে বসে দিক বোঝায়। কয়েকটি মূল শব্দ: 'to' = কোনো গন্তব্যের দিকে (go to school); 'into' = ভেতরে ঢোকা (walk into the room); 'onto' = কোনো তলের উপরে ওঠা (jump onto the table); 'out of' = ভেতর থেকে বাইরে (get out of the car); 'through' = ভেতর দিয়ে অন্য প্রান্তে (walk through the forest); 'across' = এক প্রান্ত থেকে অন্য প্রান্তে (swim across the river); 'along' = কোনো কিছুর ধারে ধারে (walk along the road); 'over' = উপর দিয়ে (jump over the wall); 'past' = পাশ কাটিয়ে (drive past the shop)। মনে রাখুন: 'home' শব্দের আগে 'to' বসে না — 'go home', কিন্তু 'go to school'।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
I went to home early.
I went home early.
'home' does not take 'to' after a verb of movement — say 'go home', not 'go to home'.
She walked in the room.
She walked into the room.
For movement from outside to inside use 'into'; 'in' shows location, not direction.
We drove across the tunnel.
We drove through the tunnel.
'through' means entering one end and coming out the other; 'across' means from one side to the other on a surface.
He jumped on the table.
He jumped onto the table.
To show movement up to a surface use 'onto'; 'on' alone suggests he was already there.
Tipsটিপস
- 'into' and 'onto' show movement; 'in' and 'on' show position — add the -to for direction. — 'into' ও 'onto' গতি বোঝায়; 'in' ও 'on' অবস্থান বোঝায় — দিক বোঝাতে -to যোগ করুন।
- Never say 'to home' — 'home' already includes the idea of 'to'. — কখনও 'to home' বলবেন না — 'home' শব্দেই 'to'-এর অর্থ ঢুকে আছে।
- Picture the path: through goes inside-and-out, across goes side-to-side, over goes above. — পথটি কল্পনা করুন: through ভেতর দিয়ে, across এক পাশ থেকে অন্য পাশে, over উপর দিয়ে।

What are prepositions of movement?
They are words like to, into, onto, through, across, over and past that show the direction or path of something that is moving, usually after verbs such as go, walk, run and drive.
What is the difference between 'into' and 'in'?
'Into' shows movement from outside to inside (She walked into the room). 'In' shows a fixed location (She is in the room). Use 'into' when there is motion.
Why don't we say 'go to home'?
The word 'home' already includes the idea of 'to', so English says 'go home' with no preposition. The same is true of 'go there' and 'go abroad'.
