Model Composition (354 words)
Introduction: No previous generation could speak to a thousand people without permission from anyone. Social media handed that to everybody at once, and we are still learning what to do with a power that arrived faster than any rules for using it. What it does well: It keeps families together across an ocean — a mother in a village watches a son in Malaysia eat his dinner. It gives a voice to people no newspaper would have printed, and more than one public wrong in this country became known because an ordinary person recorded it. It has become a marketplace: thousands of women run businesses from home on a page that cost nothing to open. It carries warnings before a cyclone faster than any older method, and it lets students share notes and lessons across districts. What it does badly: It is built to be difficult to leave, and it succeeds — hours vanish with nothing to show for them, and a student's results record the loss. It spreads what is false faster than what is true, because outrage travels better than correction, and rumours here have led to real violence. It rewards display, so people measure their ordinary lives against everyone else's edited best and feel poorer for it. It exposes the young to bullying that follows them home and does not stop at the school gate. And privacy given away in a moment cannot be recovered. How to use it well: Decide what you came for before opening it. Keep it out of the hours meant for study and out of the bedroom at night. Check a claim before passing it on, since forwarding a rumour is helping to spread it. Say online only what you would say in front of the person. And remember that the version of everyone else's life you are seeing was chosen for display. Conclusion: Social media is neither a curse nor a blessing; it is an amplifier. It makes a thoughtful person more useful and a careless one more foolish, and which of the two it is amplifying is decided by the user, not the platform.

No previous generation could speak to a thousand people without permission from anyone. Social media handed that to everybody at once. It does much well. It keeps families together across an ocean, gives a voice to people no newspaper would have printed, lets thousands of women run businesses from home, and carries cyclone warnings faster than any older method. It also does harm. It is built to be difficult to leave, so hours vanish and results record the loss. False claims travel faster than corrections, and rumours here have led to real violence. It rewards display, so people measure ordinary lives against everyone else's edited best. Decide what you came for before opening it, keep it out of study hours, and check a claim before passing it on. Social media is an amplifier. What it amplifies is decided by the user.

Social media is completely bad and students should never use it.
It is an amplifier: it makes a thoughtful person more useful and a careless one more foolish.
The examiner expects a balanced view, and a total condemnation ignores the benefits the same question is asking you to weigh.
Facebook was invented in Bangladesh in 2010.
Avoid dates and origins you are unsure of and write about effects instead.
An invented fact is easy to check and discredits the accurate observations sitting beside it.
Everyone on social media is happy and successful.
People measure ordinary lives against everyone else's edited best and feel poorer for it.
Missing this point loses one of the strongest observations available, and stating the opposite shows no reflection at all.
Listing platforms — Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram — for half the composition.
Naming one or two and spending the space on what they do to people.
A list of names contains no argument, and the marks in this item are for reasoning rather than recall.
- Should I write about both good and bad sides?
- Yes, even when the title does not say so. Examiners expect balance on this topic, and a one-sided composition reads as an opinion rather than an answer.
- How is this different from the composition on the internet?
- The internet composition covers services, work and information broadly. This one is about platforms where people talk to each other, so it belongs to attention, rumour, display and privacy.
- Can I use this for 'Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media'?
- Yes, without change. That title asks for exactly this structure, and the amplifier idea in the conclusion works just as well there.
