Model Composition (400 words)
Introduction: We are careful about what we put into the body and careless about whether we move it. Yet a body is built to be used, and one never asked to work loses the ability long before old age. Physical exercise is simply the deliberate use of a body that modern life has stopped requiring. Why it has become necessary: A generation ago the question hardly arose. People walked to school, drew water, worked in fields, and got their exercise as a by-product of living. Today a student sits through six periods, sits on a rickshaw home, and sits again over a phone until bedtime. Movement that was once unavoidable now has to be arranged on purpose, and if it is not arranged it does not happen. The kinds available: Walking asks for nothing but shoes and a road, which is why it suits almost everyone. Running, cycling and swimming build the wind and the heart. Team games — football, cricket, kabaddi, badminton — give the same benefit while feeling like enjoyment, which is why they last as a habit. Free-hand exercise, stretching and yoga need no ground and suit older people or anyone recovering from illness. What it does for the body: A heart regularly asked to work becomes efficient at the work. Weight stays within bounds without special effort, digestion improves, and sleep comes deeply. Most important here, movement holds off diabetes and high blood pressure — two illnesses climbing steeply here and far cheaper to prevent than treat. What it does for the mind: This half is usually left out. Exercise clears the restlessness a student mistakes for tiredness, so an hour of study after a walk is worth two before it. It lifts low mood, steadies the nerves before an examination, and gives the confidence of being at home in one's own body. How much, and when: Regularity beats intensity every time. Thirty minutes of brisk walking each morning does more good than three punishing hours once a week, which mainly produces stiffness and sometimes injury. Early morning suits us best, when the air is cleanest. Match the effort to age and health, and begin gently after years of sitting. Conclusion: Health is one of the few possessions that cannot be bought back once spent. Half an hour a day is a small subscription, and the only one that grows cheaper the longer it is paid.

We are careful about what we put into the body and careless about whether we move it. A generation ago people walked to school and worked in fields, so exercise was a by-product of living. Today a student sits all day, and movement has to be arranged on purpose. There are many kinds. Walking needs only shoes and a road. Running, cycling and swimming build the heart. Team games give the same benefit while feeling like enjoyment. Free-hand exercise and stretching suit older people. Regular movement keeps the heart efficient, controls weight, improves digestion and brings deep sleep. It lowers the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure, both rising fast in Bangladesh. It also steadies the mind, so an hour of study after a walk is worth two before it. Regularity beats intensity. Half an hour every morning does more than three hard hours once a week.

Physical exercise is good for health. Health is wealth. So we should do exercise.
A heart that is regularly asked to work becomes efficient at the work, and weight stays within bounds without special effort.
Three proverbs in a row say nothing the examiner has not read twenty times that morning, while one explained effect shows real understanding.
We should exercise as hard as possible for as long as possible.
Thirty minutes of brisk walking daily does more good than three punishing hours once a week.
The advice is actively harmful — overdoing it causes the injuries and the quitting that this composition should be warning against.
Everybody should run and play football every day.
Exercise should match age and health: walking or free-hand exercise suits an older person or someone recovering from illness.
A blanket prescription ignores the reader the topic is really about, and examiners give credit for the qualification.
Writing only about the body and leaving out the mind.
Including concentration, sleep, mood and steadier nerves before an examination.
The mental half is the part most scripts miss, so including it is the cheapest way to stand out in a topic everyone answers.
- How long should a composition on physical exercise be?
- About 350 to 400 words for SSC and HSC — it is a *short* composition, and going past 400 costs time the rest of the paper needs. Classes six to eight are expected to write roughly 150, which is what the short model above gives.
- What is the best time for exercise?
- Early morning suits most people here: the air is cleanest, the streets are quiet, and the day has not yet produced an excuse. What matters far more is doing it at the same time every day.
- Which kinds of exercise should I name in the exam?
- Name a range rather than a list of favourites — walking, running, swimming, cycling, team games, and free-hand exercise or yoga — and say briefly whom each suits. The range itself earns marks.
