Introduction: Education is not a favour granted to half the population and withheld from the other half. Yet for a long time in this country a boy was sent to school and a girl was kept at home, as though her mind mattered less. Female education means giving girls and women the same access to learning that boys have always had. Why it matters: An educated woman does not benefit only herself. She marries later, has fewer and healthier children, and sends every one of them to school, so the gain repeats itself in the next generation. Studies in Bangladesh have shown that a mother's years of schooling predict her child's survival more reliably than the family's income does. A country that educates only its sons is running on half an engine. The economic argument: Women are half of our workforce and more than half of our garment industry, which earns the greater part of our export income. An uneducated worker stays on the lowest wage all her life; an educated one becomes a supervisor, a nurse, a teacher, a programmer. Keeping girls out of school is not a saving. It is the most expensive thing a poor country can do. Progress and obstacles: Bangladesh has done better than many of its neighbours. Stipends for girls, free books and the near-equal enrolment of boys and girls in primary school are real achievements. But obstacles remain: early marriage, the distance to a secondary school, poverty that puts a daughter's schooling last, and the belief in some families that a girl's education ends at her wedding. Conclusion: No nation has ever risen with its women left behind. Educating a boy educates one person; educating a girl educates a family, and through that family, a village. Female education is not charity towards women. It is the shortest road to a developed Bangladesh.

Women are weaker than men, so they need education.
Women are half of the workforce, so educating them doubles the country's capacity.
The pity argument contradicts the topic and reads badly to an examiner; the capacity argument is the one the syllabus expects.
Female education is very very important for our country.
A mother's years of schooling predict her child's survival more reliably than the family's income does.
Repeating the word 'important' adds length without content, while one specific consequence earns the mark the sentence was meant to earn.
Bangladesh has done nothing for female education.
Bangladesh has achieved near-equal primary enrolment through stipends and free books, but early marriage still ends many girls' schooling.
A claim the examiner knows to be false damages the whole answer; naming the achievement and the remaining obstacle shows real knowledge.
Ending with 'So we should educate our girls.'
Educating a boy educates one person; educating a girl educates a family, and through that family, a village.
The conclusion is the last thing read and the easiest place to lift a grade, so it should give the argument a shape rather than restate it.
- Is 'female education' the same topic as 'women empowerment'?
- They overlap but are not the same. Female education is about access to schooling; women empowerment is about decision-making, income and rights. Education is usually presented as the first step towards empowerment.
- How many arguments should I give?
- Three strong ones, each in its own paragraph — social, economic, and the present situation with its obstacles. Six weak arguments score less than three developed ones.
- Can I use statistics I am not sure about?
- No. Write the relationship rather than an invented number: 'girls' enrolment in primary school is now nearly equal to boys'' is safe, an exact percentage you half-remember is not.
