9 August 2026 The Headmaster Rampura High School Dhaka Subject: Application for permission to set up a debating club. Sir, With due respect, we the students of classes eight, nine and ten beg to state that our school has no debating club, although schools around us have had one for years. Every time an inter-school competition is announced, we are unable to send a team. Debating teaches what few classroom lessons can: to build an argument, to listen to the other side, to speak in front of people without panic, and to accept a decision one disagrees with. It would also improve our spoken English, which is the weakest part of our results. We have prepared a plan. The club would meet on Thursday afternoons after the last period, so that no class is affected. About forty students have already given their names. We request one teacher as moderator and the use of the multipurpose room for two hours a week. No fund is needed at present; we shall collect ten taka a month from each member for paper and refreshments, and we shall submit the accounts to the moderator every month. We therefore pray and hope that you would be kind enough to grant us permission to form a debating club and to appoint a teacher-in-charge, and oblige.
