Sir, With due respect, we the students of your school beg to state that the annual sports of our school have not been held for the last two years. The students of every class are eager to have them again this year, and many of us have never taken part in a school sports day at all. Sports keep us healthy and teach us discipline, teamwork and how to accept a decision we disagree with, which no classroom lesson can teach as well. A sports day also brings the guardians into the school, which the teachers have often said they want. We propose the last week of December, when the weather is dry and the half-yearly examinations are over. The events could include the hundred-metre race, the long jump, the high jump, a relay, a tug of war and events for the junior section. The school field will need only levelling and marking. We have discussed the matter with our class teachers, and the students of classes eight, nine and ten have offered to organise it under their supervision. We therefore pray and hope that you would be kind enough to grant us permission to hold the annual sports and to form a committee for it, and oblige.
