Most of us spend our days at work, so knowing the right English words makes a real difference. Learning the words for people, places, actions and everyday office language helps you speak with colleagues, join meetings and write emails with confidence.
আমাদের বেশিরভাগ সময় কাটে কাজের জায়গায়, তাই সঠিক ইংরেজি শব্দ জানা সত্যিই কাজে লাগে। মানুষ, জায়গা, কাজ ও অফিসের প্রতিদিনের ভাষার শব্দ শিখলে সহকর্মীদের সাথে কথা বলা, সভায় অংশ নেওয়া ও ইমেইল লেখা সহজ হবে।

Workplace vocabulary includes people (boss, manager, colleague, staff), places (office, department, desk), actions (apply, resign, promote) and everyday words like meeting, deadline, report, salary and email.
Workplace vocabulary বলতে বোঝায় মানুষ (boss-বস, manager-ব্যবস্থাপক, colleague-সহকর্মী, staff-কর্মী), জায়গা (office-অফিস, department-বিভাগ, desk-ডেস্ক), কাজ (apply-আবেদন করা, resign-পদত্যাগ করা, promote-পদোন্নতি দেওয়া) এবং প্রতিদিনের শব্দ যেমন meeting, deadline, report, salary ও email।

কর্মক্ষেত্রের ইংরেজি কয়েকটি দলে ভাগ করলে সহজ হয়: (১) মানুষ (people) — boss/manager (বস/ব্যবস্থাপক), colleague (সহকর্মী), staff/employee (কর্মী), client (গ্রাহক); (২) জায়গা ও জিনিস — office (অফিস), department (বিভাগ), desk (ডেস্ক), file (ফাইল); (৩) কাজ (actions) — apply for a job (চাকরির আবেদন করা), attend a meeting (সভায় যোগ দেওয়া), meet a deadline (সময়সীমার মধ্যে শেষ করা), get a promotion (পদোন্নতি পাওয়া); (৪) প্রতিদিনের শব্দ — salary (বেতন), report (প্রতিবেদন), overtime (অতিরিক্ত সময়)। খেয়াল রাখুন — 'work' ও 'staff' uncountable, তাই এগুলোর সাথে বহুবচন -s বসে না: 'a lot of work', 'ten staff members', কখনো 'works' বা 'staffs' নয়।

- We often work overtime at the end of the month.We often work overtime at the end of the month. — 'মাসের শেষে আমরা প্রায়ই অতিরিক্ত সময় কাজ করি।' overtime = অতিরিক্ত সময়।
- The salary is paid at the end of the month.The salary is paid at the end of the month. — 'বেতন মাসের শেষে দেওয়া হয়।' salary = বেতন।
Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
We have ten staffs.
We have ten staff members. / ten employees.
'Staff' is uncountable (a group), so it takes no plural -s. Count with 'staff members' or 'employees'.
I have many works today.
I have a lot of work today.
'Work' is uncountable — no plural -s and no 'a'. Use 'a lot of work'. 'Job' is the countable word: 'two jobs'.
He is my officer.
He is my colleague. / my boss.
'Officer' means a police, army or official rank. A person you work with is a 'colleague'; your senior is your 'boss' or 'manager'.
I join office at 9 every day.
I start work at 9 every day. / I get to the office at 9.
'Join' a company happens once, on your first day. For arriving each day use 'start work' or 'get to the office'.

What is the difference between 'work' and 'job'?
'Work' is the general activity and is uncountable ('a lot of work'). A 'job' is a specific paid position and is countable ('I have two jobs'). You do work; you have a job.
