“The wall is colour blue.” In Bangla we say দেয়ালটা নীল রঙের, and রঙের has to go somewhere, so it turns into “colour” and sits in the middle of the English sentence where nothing needs it. English lets the colour word do the whole job by itself: the wall is blue. The same tidiness applies to shapes, where English keeps two words for one idea — a circle is the thing, round is the description — and mixing them up produces “The table is rectangle.”

Colours and shapes are the first adjectives anyone learns, and English handles them with two rules: the describing word goes before the noun (a red car, never a car red), and each shape has a noun form and a separate adjective form (circle/round, square/square, triangle/triangular, rectangle/rectangular).

রঙের ব্যাপারটা আগে সেরে নিন। ইংরেজিতে রঙের নাম নিজেই বিশেষণ, তাই “colour” শব্দটা বসানোর দরকার নেই: “The wall is blue” ✓, “The wall is colour blue” ✗। রং জানতে চাইলে প্রশ্নটা হয় “What colour is it?” — এখানে colour শব্দটা লাগে, কারণ এটাই প্রশ্নের বিষয়। গাঢ় আর হালকা বোঝাতে dark আর light বসান রঙের আগে: dark blue, light green, dark brown। উজ্জ্বল bright, ফিকে pale বা faded। বাংলার কয়েকটা রঙের ইংরেজি সরাসরি নেই — আকাশি রঙের ইংরেজি sky blue, কমলা orange, বেগুনি purple বা violet, খয়েরি maroon বা brown, সোনালি golden, রুপালি silver, ধূসর grey (আমেরিকান বানানে gray)। আর রং “করা” হয় না — দেয়াল paint করা হয়, চুল dye করা হয়, আর কাপড় dye করা হয়। আকৃতির শব্দগুলো জোড়ায় মুখস্থ করুন, কারণ ইংরেজিতে বিশেষ্য আর বিশেষণ আলাদা: circle → round (গোল), square → square (বর্গাকার — এখানে দুটো রূপ একই), triangle → triangular, rectangle → rectangular, oval → oval, cube → cubic, sphere → spherical, cylinder → cylindrical। তাই বলুন “The table is rectangular” বা “It is a rectangle”, কিন্তু “The table is rectangle” নয়। আর a বসবে কি বসবে না সেটাও এখান থেকেই ঠিক হয়: বিশেষণের আগে a বসে না — “This box is round” ✓, “This box is a round” ✗; কিন্তু বিশেষ্যের আগে বসে — “This box is a circle”। শেষে বিশেষণের ক্রম, যেটা ইংরেজিতে বাঁধা আর বাংলায় নেই — বাংলায় “লাল ছোট বলটা” আর “ছোট লাল বলটা” দুটোই চলে, ইংরেজিতে চলে না। ক্রমটা হলো: মতামত → আকার → আকৃতি → বয়স → রং → উৎস → উপাদান। বাস্তবে এত মনে রাখার দরকার নেই; মনে রাখুন শুধু আকার আগে, রং পরে: “a big red ball”, “a small round table”, “a beautiful old wooden door”। তাই “a red big ball” বেখাপ্পা শোনায়, যদিও ব্যাকরণের কোনো নিয়ম আলাদা করে ভাঙা হয়নি — এটা অভ্যাসের নিয়ম, কান দিয়ে শেখার জিনিস। শেখা পাকা করার সহজ উপায়: এক সপ্তাহ ধরে দিনে দশটা জিনিস দেখে মনে মনে ইংরেজিতে বলুন — “a small white cup”, “a long black cable”, “a round steel plate”। রং আর আকৃতির শব্দ এভাবেই সবচেয়ে দ্রুত মুখে আসে।
