Sooner or later a stranger will ask you the way — or you'll need to give a friend directions to your home. A few clear phrases make this easy, even if your English is basic.
কোনো না কোনো দিন কেউ আপনার কাছে রাস্তা জিজ্ঞেস করবে — অথবা আপনাকে বন্ধুকে বাড়ির পথ বলে দিতে হবে। কয়েকটা পরিষ্কার বাক্য জানলে ইংরেজি সাধারণ হলেও এটা সহজ হয়ে যায়।

Giving directions means telling someone which way to go using simple verbs (go, turn, take) and landmarks (the mosque, the market, the traffic light).
Directions দেওয়া মানে সহজ verb (go, turn, take) আর চেনা জায়গা (মসজিদ, বাজার, ট্রাফিক লাইট) দিয়ে কাউকে কোন দিকে যেতে হবে তা বলে দেওয়া।

মূল শব্দগুলো মনে রাখুন: go straight (সোজা যান), turn left (বাঁ দিকে ঘুরুন), turn right (ডান দিকে ঘুরুন), next to (পাশে), in front of (সামনে), behind (পিছনে), between (মাঝে)। বাংলাদেশে সবাই landmark দিয়ে পথ বোঝে, তাই মসজিদ, স্কুল, বাজার — এসব দিয়ে বলুন। কেউ পথ জিজ্ঞেস করার আগে ভদ্রভাবে শুরু করুন: “Excuse me, how do I get to …?” আর নিজে বলার সময় ধাপে ধাপে বলুন — একবারে সব নয়।

- It's about a five-minute walk from here.এখান থেকে হেঁটে প্রায় পাঁচ মিনিটের পথ।
Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
Go to the straight.
Go straight.
'Straight' needs no 'to the' — just say 'go straight' or 'go straight ahead'.
Turn to the left hand.
Turn left.
In English we simply say 'turn left' or 'turn right' — no 'hand' and no 'to the'.

The natural question for directions is 'How do I get to …?', not a word-for-word 'how I will go'.
Go front.
Go straight ahead.
'Go front' is a direct translation; natural English is 'go straight ahead' or 'keep going forward'.

- Start with 'Excuse me' before you ask a stranger — it sounds polite and friendly. — কোনো অচেনা মানুষকে জিজ্ঞেস করার আগে 'Excuse me' বলুন — শুনতে ভদ্র লাগে।
- Give directions with landmarks (mosque, market, school) — locals find places by them. — landmark দিয়ে পথ বলুন (মসজিদ, বাজার, স্কুল) — স্থানীয় মানুষ এভাবেই জায়গা খুঁজে পায়।
- Add 'you can't miss it' to reassure someone the place is easy to find. — 'You can't miss it' যোগ করলে বোঝায় জায়গাটা সহজেই খুঁজে পাওয়া যাবে।
- If you're not sure, say 'I think it's this way' instead of pointing the wrong way confidently. — নিশ্চিত না হলে জোর দিয়ে ভুল দিক না দেখিয়ে বলুন 'I think it's this way'।
