Annual Prize-giving Ceremony Held at Rampura High School Staff Correspondent, Dhaka, 8 August: The annual prize-giving ceremony of Rampura High School was held on the school premises yesterday afternoon in a festive atmosphere. The ceremony began at three o'clock with recitation from the holy books, followed by the national anthem sung by the students of the junior section. The headmaster of the school, Mr Abdul Karim, presided over the function. The Deputy Commissioner of the district attended as chief guest, and the chairman of the school managing committee was present as special guest. In his welcome address the headmaster said that the school had achieved a hundred per cent pass rate in the last Secondary School Certificate examination, with twenty-two students securing GPA 5.00. He thanked the guardians for their cooperation and appealed for a new science laboratory. Prizes were then distributed among ninety-six students in academic, sports and cultural categories. The chief guest handed over the prizes and addressed the gathering briefly. He advised the students to read beyond their textbooks and reminded them that a good result is a beginning rather than an end. A cultural programme followed. Students performed songs, a recitation and a short play on the Language Movement, which the audience received warmly. The ceremony ended at half past six with a vote of thanks from the assistant headmaster. Teachers, guardians and students of all classes were present throughout.
