You do not need to read every word to understand a text. Skilled readers use two fast techniques: skimming to catch the main idea quickly, and scanning to find one exact piece of information. These save huge time in exams like IELTS and in daily reading.
একটি লেখা বুঝতে প্রতিটি শব্দ পড়ার দরকার নেই। দক্ষ পাঠকরা দুটি দ্রুত কৌশল ব্যবহার করে: skimming — মূল ভাব দ্রুত ধরা, আর scanning — একটি নির্দিষ্ট তথ্য খুঁজে বের করা। IELTS-এর মতো পরীক্ষায় ও প্রতিদিনের পড়ায় এতে অনেক সময় বাঁচে।

Skimming means reading quickly over a text to get the general idea. Scanning means moving your eyes fast to find one specific detail, such as a name, date, or number, without reading everything.
Skimming মানে দ্রুত চোখ বুলিয়ে লেখার সাধারণ ভাব ধরা। Scanning মানে সবকিছু না পড়ে দ্রুত চোখ ঘুরিয়ে একটি নির্দিষ্ট তথ্য — নাম, তারিখ বা সংখ্যা — খুঁজে বের করা।

Skimming ব্যবহার করো যখন দ্রুত বুঝতে চাও লেখাটি কী নিয়ে — যেমন খবরের পাতা ঝালিয়ে নেওয়া। শিরোনাম, প্রথম ও শেষ অনুচ্ছেদ, আর প্রতিটি অনুচ্ছেদের প্রথম বাক্য পড়ো; মাঝের অংশ চোখ বুলিয়ে যাও। মোটা অক্ষর, সংখ্যা ও বারবার আসা শব্দ লক্ষ করো। Scanning ব্যবহার করো যখন একটি নির্দিষ্ট উত্তর খুঁজছ — যেমন সময়সূচিতে ট্রেন কখন ছাড়ে। মূল ভাবের দিকে না তাকিয়ে শুধু সেই তথ্যটির দিকে চোখ দ্রুত চালাও; একটি বিশেষ শব্দ বা সংখ্যা খোঁজো। মনে রেখো: skimming দেয় সামগ্রিক ছবি, scanning দেয় একটি নির্দিষ্ট তথ্য। পরীক্ষায় আগে skim করে বুঝে নাও লেখা কোথায় কী আছে, তারপর প্রতিটি প্রশ্নের উত্তর scan করে খুঁজে নাও — এতে সময় অনেক বাঁচে।
