Value of Time Paragraph

Time is the one thing every person is given in equal measure and nobody can add to. A rich man and a poor man both receive twenty-four hours a day, and this is the only respect in which they are equal. What makes time different from money is that it cannot be saved, borrowed or earned back: a wasted hour is not spent, it is destroyed. Everyone who has achieved anything worth mentioning has understood this. A student who reads one hour every morning finishes far ahead of one who reads six hours in the week before an examination, because knowledge needs time to settle. A farmer who sows late loses the whole season, however hard he works afterwards. Wasting time rarely feels like waste while it is happening — it feels like a short rest, one more video, one more chat — which is why it goes unnoticed until the result comes out. The remedy is not to work every waking hour but to decide in advance what each part of the day is for. A day divided into study, work, rest and prayer is longer than a day left to drift, though both have twenty-four hours.
