Punctuality Paragraph

Punctuality means doing the right thing at the right time. It sounds like a small virtue, but it decides more of a life than talent does. A punctual student reaches class before the teacher, hands in work on the day it is due, and revises through the term instead of the night before an examination. A punctual worker is trusted with responsibility, because an employer can plan around someone who arrives when he says he will. In Bangladesh we sometimes treat lateness lightly, and a wedding invitation for seven o'clock quietly means nine, yet the same habit in an office or a hospital costs money and occasionally lives. Being late is never a private matter. When one person arrives half an hour late to a meeting of ten, five working hours are wasted, and the person who was on time is punished for it. Punctuality also brings calm: a person who leaves early does not run, does not arrive breathless and does not begin the day already apologising. The habit is not difficult to build. Keeping a routine, preparing the night before and allowing for traffic instead of hoping against it are enough. Once formed in youth, it lasts a lifetime.

সময়ানুবর্তিতা মানে সঠিক কাজটি সঠিক সময়ে করা। শুনতে ছোট গুণ মনে হয়, কিন্তু প্রতিভার চেয়ে এটাই জীবনের বেশি অংশ ঠিক করে দেয়। সময়ানুবর্তী শিক্ষার্থী শিক্ষকের আগে ক্লাসে পৌঁছায়, নির্ধারিত দিনেই কাজ জমা দেয়, পরীক্ষার আগের রাতে নয় — সারা টার্ম ধরে পড়ে। সময়ানুবর্তী কর্মীর উপর দায়িত্ব দেওয়া যায়, কারণ তিনি যখন আসবেন বলেন তখনই আসেন। বাংলাদেশে আমরা মাঝে মাঝে দেরিকে হালকাভাবে নিই — সাতটার নিমন্ত্রণ মানে নীরবে নয়টা — অথচ অফিসে বা হাসপাতালে একই অভ্যাসে টাকা যায়, কখনো প্রাণও। দেরি করা কখনোই ব্যক্তিগত বিষয় নয়: দশজনের সভায় একজন আধঘণ্টা দেরি করলে পাঁচ কর্মঘণ্টা নষ্ট হয়।

এই বিষয়ে গড় উত্তর শুধু 'সময়ের মূল্য দিতে হবে' বলে যায়। আলাদা হওয়ার সবচেয়ে কার্যকর উপায় হলো **দেরির খরচ হিসাব করে দেখানো** — দশজনের সভায় একজন আধঘণ্টা দেরি করলে পাঁচ কর্মঘণ্টা নষ্ট। সংখ্যাটা ছোট, কিন্তু যুক্তিটা কেউ লেখে না। ক্রম: (১) সংজ্ঞা; (২) শিক্ষার্থী ও কর্মীর জীবনে; (৩) বাংলাদেশি বাস্তবতা — সাতটার নিমন্ত্রণ মানে নয়টা; (৪) দেরি অন্যের ক্ষতি করে; (৫) অভ্যাস গড়ার উপায়। বিয়ের নিমন্ত্রণের উদাহরণটা পরীক্ষক চিনবেন, আর ওটাই উত্তরকে জীবন্ত করে — তবে অভিযোগের সুরে নয়, পর্যবেক্ষণের সুরে লিখুন।
