My Village Paragraph

My village is a small settlement of about two hundred families, lying beside a river a few kilometres from the upazila town. A single brick road runs through the middle of it, and narrow earth paths branch off towards the houses, most of which have tin roofs and a small yard where paddy is dried. Green fields surround the village on three sides, and in the monsoon they fill with water until the whole place looks like an island. There is a primary school, a mosque, a small bazar of about twenty shops, and a health centre that opens three days a week. Most people here are farmers; others drive rickshaws, keep shops, or work in Dhaka and send money home every month. Life is simple and slower than in a city. Neighbours know one another, a wedding or a death brings the whole village out, and children swim in the river after school. Much has changed in my lifetime. Electricity arrived, then mobile phones, and now most families have one; girls go to school in numbers my grandmother would not recognise. What has not changed is the quiet, and that is the thing I miss most whenever I am away.

আমার গ্রাম প্রায় দুইশ পরিবারের ছোট এক জনপদ, নদীর ধারে, উপজেলা শহর থেকে কয়েক কিলোমিটার দূরে। মাঝখান দিয়ে একটি পাকা রাস্তা গেছে, আর সেখান থেকে সরু মাটির পথ বাড়িগুলোর দিকে গেছে — বেশিরভাগ বাড়ির চাল টিনের, উঠানে ধান শুকায়। তিন দিকে সবুজ মাঠ, বর্ষায় সেগুলো পানিতে ভরে গিয়ে গোটা গ্রামটাকে দ্বীপের মতো দেখায়। আছে একটি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয়, একটি মসজিদ, কুড়িটি দোকানের ছোট বাজার, আর সপ্তাহে তিন দিন খোলা একটি স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্র। বেশিরভাগ মানুষ কৃষক; কেউ রিকশা চালান, কেউ দোকান করেন, কেউ ঢাকায় কাজ করে প্রতি মাসে টাকা পাঠান। আমার জীবনেই অনেক বদলেছে — বিদ্যুৎ এসেছে, তারপর মোবাইল, আর এখন মেয়েরা স্কুলে যায় এমন সংখ্যায় যা আমার দাদি চিনতেন না।

এই বিষয়ে দুর্বল উত্তরের চিহ্ন হলো **অতিরঞ্জন** — 'আমার গ্রাম স্বর্গের মতো সুন্দর'। পরীক্ষক এটা হাজারবার পড়েছেন। শক্তিশালী উত্তর দেয় **সংখ্যা ও নির্দিষ্ট জিনিস**: কত পরিবার, কয়টা দোকান, স্বাস্থ্যকেন্দ্র সপ্তাহে কদিন খোলা। ক্রম: (১) কোথায়, কত বড়; (২) চেহারা — রাস্তা, বাড়ি, মাঠ, নদী; (৩) কী কী আছে; (৪) মানুষ কী করে; (৫) জীবনযাত্রা; (৬) **কী বদলেছে** — এই অংশটাই বেশিরভাগ শিক্ষার্থী বাদ দেয়, অথচ বিদ্যুৎ, মোবাইল আর মেয়েদের স্কুলে যাওয়ার কথা লিখলে উত্তরটা জীবন্ত ও সৎ হয়ে ওঠে।
