A Nurse Paragraph

A nurse is a trained health professional who cares for patients in a hospital, a clinic or a community. Nursing is not an assistant's job, though it is often treated as one here. A nurse studies for three or four years and then does most of what keeps a patient alive between one visit by a doctor and the next: giving medicine at the right hour, dressing wounds, putting in a cannula, watching pulse and pressure, preparing a patient for surgery and noticing the change that means something is going wrong. She works in shifts, including nights, and in most of our hospitals she does it for far more patients than she should have. Bangladesh has fewer nurses than doctors, which is the reverse of what a health system needs, and many of those trained here leave for the Gulf or Europe for better pay. The work is also emotional. A nurse tells a family news they do not want, holds a frightened child still and sits with a patient nobody has come to visit. Medicine cures, but almost nobody is cured without a nurse, and she is usually the last person in the ward to be thanked.

গড় উত্তর নার্সকে 'ডাক্তারের সহকারী' বানিয়ে ফেলে — সেটাই সবচেয়ে বড় ভুল। শক্তিশালী উত্তর দেখায় **তিনি আসলে কী করেন**: ওষুধের সময়, ড্রেসিং, ক্যানুলা, নাড়ি-চাপ, অস্ত্রোপচারের প্রস্তুতি, আর অবনতি লক্ষ করা। ক্রম: (১) কে ও কোথায় কাজ করেন; (২) **এটা সহকারীর কাজ নয়** — প্রশিক্ষণের কথা বলুন; (৩) দায়িত্ব, নির্দিষ্টভাবে; (৪) পালা ও চাপ; (৫) **ব্যবস্থাগত সমস্যা** — ডাক্তারের চেয়ে নার্স কম, আর প্রশিক্ষিতদের অনেকেই বিদেশে চলে যান; এই তথ্যটা প্রায় কোনো উত্তরে নেই; (৬) **আবেগের দিক** — খারাপ খবর দেওয়া, ভয় পাওয়া শিশুকে ধরে রাখা, যাঁর কেউ আসেনি তাঁর পাশে বসা; (৭) শেষ বাক্য।
