The Station Road in our town has become almost unusable. The surface broke up during the last monsoon and has not been repaired since. There are now potholes deep enough to hide a brick, and after a shower they fill with water so that a rider cannot tell a puddle from a pit. This road carries the traffic of two schools, a college and the town's main hospital. Rickshaws overturn on it almost weekly. Last month an ambulance carrying a patient had to slow to walking pace for the last half kilometre, and the patient's family said the delay was more than fifteen minutes. Shopkeepers on both sides say their sales have fallen because customers avoid the road. Dust covers their goods in the dry season and the water stands in front of their doors in the wet. I request the authorities concerned to repair the road before the next monsoon, and to make the drain along it work so that the new surface does not break up in a single season.
