“My body is not good today.” It is শরীরটা ভালো না, translated straight, and it is one of the most recognisable Bangladeshi sentences in English. Nothing in it is ungrammatical; it is simply not what anyone says. The English for that exact feeling — mildly unwell, nothing dramatic, not going in today — is an idiom: I'm feeling a bit under the weather. Health is one subject where the idiom is the natural expression and the literal sentence is the odd one.

“My body is not good today.” — এটা “শরীরটা ভালো না”-র সরাসরি অনুবাদ, আর ইংরেজিতে লেখা সবচেয়ে চেনা বাংলাদেশি বাক্যগুলোর একটা। ব্যাকরণে এতে কোনো ভুল নেই; কেবল কেউ এভাবে বলে না। ঠিক ওই অনুভূতিটার ইংরেজি — সামান্য অসুস্থ, বড় কিছু নয়, আজ আর বেরোচ্ছি না — একটা idiom: I'm feeling a bit under the weather। স্বাস্থ্য এমন একটা বিষয় যেখানে idiom-টাই স্বাভাবিক প্রকাশ, আর আক্ষরিক বাক্যটাই বেমানান।

    The fixed idiom keeps 'the': under the weather. Dropping it breaks the phrase.

    The set phrase needs the article 'a': as fit as a fiddle.

    'Catch a cold' takes the article 'a'. Without it the sentence sounds unnatural.
