Introductionভূমিকা

Bangladeshi newspapers give সবুজ সংকেত every week — the authorities give a green signal to a project — and English uses the same colour for the same act, but a different noun: give the green light. The reverse case is হাতেনাতে ধরা, which is “caught red-handed”, an exact match down to the hand. Colour idioms are worth checking one by one, because some of them crossed into Bangla long ago and some of them only look as if they did.

Colour idioms use a colour as a code for a feeling or a state: green for envy and permission, red for anger and guilt, blue for rarity and surprise, black and white for what is written down. The colour is never literal, and the codes differ from language to language.

The fixed idiom is 'once in a blue moon' (very rarely), not 'a blue day'.

The correct preposition is 'with': green with envy.

The set phrase is 'red-handed', with '-ed'. 'Red-hand' is not correct.
