He stood under the vine and looked up. The grapes were far above his head. He gathered himself and sprang up at them, but his teeth closed on empty air. He fell back on the ground. He tried once more, jumping higher this time, and again he missed. He walked back a few steps, ran forward and leapt with all his strength — and still the grapes hung quietly above him, just out of reach. The fox tried again and again until he was out of breath. His legs ached and his sides heaved. Not once had he even touched a grape. At last he saw that it was of no use and gave up the attempt. As he walked away, he looked back over his shoulder at the bunch he could not reach. "I do not want them after all," he said aloud, so that anyone passing might hear. "Anybody can see that those grapes are sour. Only a fool would eat them." And he went off with his head high, hiding his failure behind a complaint.

শিয়াল আঙুরের নিচে দাঁড়িয়ে বারবার লাফ দেয়, কিন্তু নাগাল পায় না। কয়েক পা পিছিয়ে দৌড়ে এসে সর্বশক্তিতে লাফালেও আঙুর ঠিক নাগালের বাইরেই ঝুলে থাকে। শেষে হাঁপিয়ে সে চেষ্টা ছেড়ে দেয়। চলে যেতে যেতে পেছনে তাকিয়ে জোরে বলে, "ওগুলো আমি চাই না — সবাই দেখতে পাচ্ছে আঙুরগুলো টক।" মাথা উঁচু করে সে চলে যায়, নিজের ব্যর্থতাকে অভিযোগের আড়ালে লুকিয়ে।
কীভাবে লিখবেন — structure
লাফের চেষ্টাগুলো আলাদা করে লিখুন — প্রথম লাফ, দ্বিতীয় লাফ, দৌড়ে এসে লাফ। একবারে "he tried many times" লিখলে গল্পটাও ছোট হয়, হতাশাও বোঝা যায় না। ক্লান্তির চিহ্ন দিন ("out of breath", "his legs ached")। এতে শেষের অজুহাতটা বিশ্বাসযোগ্য হয়। শেষ সংলাপটি জোরে বলা হচ্ছে — "so that anyone passing might hear" — এই ছোট বাক্যাংশটিই দেখিয়ে দেয় সে নিজেকে নয়, অন্যদের বোঝাচ্ছে। এখানেই গল্পের আসল কথা।
