Bangla দ and ধ: the puff of air that changes the word
English aspirates by accident: the P in *pin* has a puff, the P in *spin* does not, and no English word changes meaning because of it. In Bangla the puff is the difference. দান (daan, a gift) and ধান (dhaan, paddy) are two words, and a Bangladeshi ear separates them instantly.
Where the tongue goes
Hold a sheet of paper in front of your mouth. Say দ — the paper should barely move. Say ধ — it should visibly flutter. The same test works for ক/খ, গ/ঘ, ট/ঠ, প/ফ and ব/ভ, which is the whole aspirated series.
Now say these

- ধনী দাদু ধনুক ধরে দাঁড়ালেন।The rich grandfather stood holding a bow.
- দশ ধাপ ধরে দুধ ঢালো।Pour the milk over ten steps.
The pair that goes wrong
Asking for ধান when you mean দান.দান = a gift; ধান = paddy. One breath apart.English speakers hear both as the same consonant, so the two words feel identical until the breath test makes the difference physical.
