Loudspeakers at political meetings, weddings, shop openings and religious programmes run for hours. Construction work, brick-breaking machines, generators during load shedding and mills built inside residential areas add to it all day. The harm is real even though it leaves no mark. Constant noise causes headache, high blood pressure, sleeplessness and irritability, and permanent hearing loss is common among traffic police and bus helpers. Students cannot concentrate, patients cannot rest, and small children exposed to loud noise develop language more slowly. Laws already restrict horns and set silent zones around hospitals and schools, but they are barely enforced. Banning hydraulic horns in practice rather than on paper, keeping mills out of housing areas and simply not pressing the horn in a queue would change more than any campaign.
