A pie chart in IELTS Academic Task 1 shows how a whole is divided into parts, almost always as percentages. Your task is to compare the slices, highlight the biggest and smallest, and group similar values — not list every number.

A pie chart is a circular graph split into segments, where each segment's size represents its share of the total (100%). You may be given one chart or two to compare, sometimes across different years.
Pie chart হলো একটি বৃত্তাকার গ্রাফ যা অংশে বিভক্ত, যেখানে প্রতিটি অংশের আকার মোটের (১০০%) মধ্যে তার ভাগ বোঝায়। আপনাকে একটি বা তুলনার জন্য দুটি chart দেওয়া হতে পারে, কখনো ভিন্ন বছরের।

Pie chart লেখার কাঠামো: (১) প্রশ্নটি প্যারাফ্রেজ করে introduction, (২) overview — সবচেয়ে বড় ও সবচেয়ে ছোট অংশ কোনটি, কোনো সংখ্যা ছাড়াই মূল ছবি, (৩–৪) body-তে সংখ্যা দিয়ে বিস্তারিত তুলনা। শতাংশ বোঝাতে বিভিন্ন ভাষা ব্যবহার করুন: “accounts for 40%”, “makes up a quarter”, “the largest proportion”, “a small fraction”। প্রায় সমান মানগুলো একসাথে গ্রুপ করুন (“roughly equal at around 20% each”)। দুটি chart থাকলে পরিবর্তন বর্ণনা করুন (increased, fell, remained stable)। present simple ব্যবহার করুন, তবে অতীতের তারিখ থাকলে past tense। সব সংখ্যা লিখবেন না — গুরুত্বপূর্ণগুলো বেছে নিন।

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল
The pie chart shows the number of household spending.
The pie chart shows the proportion of household spending.
Pie charts show proportions/percentages of a whole, not raw numbers, so use 'proportion' or 'percentage'.
Food is 40 percent, housing is 30 percent, transport is 15 percent, education is 12 percent.
Food makes up the largest share at 40%, followed by housing at 30%.
Listing every figure with no comparison scores poorly; select, compare and group instead.
The amount of food is more bigger than housing.
The proportion spent on food is far larger than that spent on housing.
'More bigger' is a double comparative; use 'larger' or 'far larger'.
In my opinion, people spend too much on food.
Food accounts for the largest proportion of spending.
Task 1 has no opinions — describe the data only.

- Put the biggest and smallest slices in your overview — that is the examiner's first checkpoint. — সবচেয়ে বড় ও ছোট slice আপনার overview-তে রাখুন — examiner প্রথমে সেটাই দেখেন।
- Use a range of fraction and percentage phrases: 'a third', 'half', 'a quarter', 'accounts for', 'makes up'. — ভগ্নাংশ ও শতাংশের নানা phrase ব্যবহার করুন: 'a third', 'half', 'a quarter', 'accounts for', 'makes up'।
- If two pie charts share the same categories, describe the change over time, not each chart separately. — দুটি pie chart-এ একই বিভাগ থাকলে সময়ের সাথে পরিবর্তন বর্ণনা করুন, প্রতিটি chart আলাদাভাবে নয়।
- Do not describe all data; group similar values to keep your answer clear and under 20 minutes. — সব তথ্য বর্ণনা করবেন না; কাছাকাছি মানগুলো গ্রুপ করুন যাতে উত্তর পরিষ্কার থাকে ও ২০ মিনিটের মধ্যে শেষ হয়।
