Phrasal Verbs with Bring
Phrasal Verbs with Bring (Bring দিয়ে গঠিত phrasal verb)
Introductionভূমিকা
Bangla already separates what English merges. Raising a child is মানুষ করা; raising a subject is কথা তোলা — two completely different verbs. English uses “bring up” for both, and only the sentence tells you which one is meant: “My grandparents brought me up” against “Don't bring that up at dinner.” Interestingly, তোলা and “bring up” share the same picture of lifting something into view, so at least half of this one you already understand.
ইংরেজি যেটা এক করে ফেলে, বাংলা সেটা আগে থেকেই আলাদা রাখে। সন্তান বড় করা “মানুষ করা”; কোনো প্রসঙ্গ তোলা “কথা তোলা” — দুটো সম্পূর্ণ আলাদা ক্রিয়া। ইংরেজি দুটোতেই “bring up” ব্যবহার করে, আর কোনটা বোঝানো হচ্ছে তা বলে দেয় কেবল বাক্যটাই: “My grandparents brought me up” বনাম “Don't bring that up at dinner.” মজার ব্যাপার, “তোলা” আর “bring up” — দুটোরই ছবি একই, কোনো কিছু তুলে সামনে আনা; অর্থাৎ এর অন্তত অর্ধেকটা আপনার আগে থেকেই বোঝা।
Definitionসংজ্ঞা
“Bring” phrasal verbs move something towards the speaker or into view: bring up (raise a child, or raise a topic), bring back (return, or revive a memory), bring about (cause), bring in (earn or introduce), bring out (reveal), bring down (reduce). Most of them are separable.
“Bring”-এর phrasal verb কোনো কিছুকে বক্তার দিকে বা চোখের সামনে নিয়ে আসে: bring up (সন্তান বড় করা, বা প্রসঙ্গ তোলা), bring back (ফিরিয়ে আনা, বা স্মৃতি জাগানো), bring about (ঘটানো), bring in (আয় করা বা চালু করা), bring out (বের করে আনা), bring down (কমানো)। এদের বেশির ভাগই separable।
Bangla Explanation
Bring-এর প্রায় সব phrasal verb separable, তাই সাধারণ noun দুই জায়গাতেই বসতে পারে: “bring up the topic” বা “bring the topic up”, দুটোই ঠিক। কিন্তু object যদি সর্বনাম হয়, তবে সে মাঝখানেই বসবে: “My parents brought me up” ✓, “brought up me” ✗। একইভাবে “bring it back”, “bring them in”, “bring it forward”। ব্যতিক্রম কেবল bring about — এটা লম্বা object-এর সাথে ভাগ হয় না: “The new policy brought about many changes” বলাই স্বাভাবিক। আর বাড়তি preposition-এর ফাঁদটা এড়িয়ে চলুন, কারণ এখানে বাংলা টানে। “Bring up about the salary problem” নয় — bring up-এর ভেতরেই প্রসঙ্গ তোলার অর্থ আছে, তাই about-এর জায়গা নেই: “He brought up the salary problem in the meeting.” “This photo brings back to my childhood” নয় — bring back সরাসরি object নেয়: “This photo brings back memories of my childhood.” “Brought down of the prices” নয় — of বাদ: “The reform brought down the prices.” আর দুটো ব্যবহার আলাদা করে মনে রাখুন, কারণ খবরের ইংরেজিতে এদুটোই সবচেয়ে বেশি আসে: “bring in” টাকা বা নিয়মের সাথে (“Her tea stall brings in over a thousand taka a day”, “The government brought in a new rule”), আর “bring down” দাম বা সরকারের সাথে (“The government promised to bring down the price of rice”)। এই দুটো জোড়া চিনে রাখলে ইংরেজি খবরের একটা বড় অংশ সহজ হয়ে যায়।
