English Idioms about Happiness

Introductionভূমিকা

Four idioms, one meaning, four different prepositions: over the moon, on cloud nine, in seventh heaven, on top of the world. There is no rule connecting them, and Bangla gives you no warning at all, because our locative -এ covers every one of those positions with the same ending. So the preposition has to be memorised with the phrase, as part of it — get it wrong and the sentence still makes sense, but it stops sounding like English.

Common Mistakesসাধারণ ভুল

• ❌ I am over the moon happy about the result.

  ✅ I am over the moon about the result.

  'Over the moon' already means very happy, so adding 'happy' is repetitive.

• ❌ He is in cloud nine today.

  ✅ He is on cloud nine today.

  The fixed idiom uses 'on', not 'in': on cloud nine.

• ❌ She felt at seventh heaven after the news.

  ✅ She felt in seventh heaven after the news.

  The correct preposition is 'in': in seventh heaven.

• ❌ The kids jumped for happiness.

  ✅ The kids jumped for joy.

  The idiom is fixed as 'jump for joy'; you cannot swap 'joy' for 'happiness'.
