এক ঢিলে দুই পাখি and “kill two birds with one stone” are the same sentence in two languages — same stone, same two birds, same satisfaction. Then you meet “let the cat out of the bag” and there is nothing in Bangla to hold on to; the cat, the bag and the secret have no connection you can reason out. Animal idioms split neatly into those two kinds, and knowing which kind you are looking at tells you whether to translate or simply memorise.

Animal idioms borrow an animal's behaviour to describe a human one: horses for haste, cats for secrets, elephants for what everyone is avoiding, fish for being out of place. The animal is only the picture; the meaning belongs entirely to the fixed phrase.
