Numbers spoken at natural speed are hard to catch; reading them back confirms you got them right.
Guessing a caller's name instead of checking it.
Asking "Could you spell that, please?"
Names on the phone are easy to mishear; spelling removes the guesswork.
Hanging up without confirming the key details.
Repeating the time, date or number back before you end the call.
A quick read-back catches errors while you can still fix them.

Why are phone calls harder to understand than face-to-face English?
